4020 and plow pics

Here are some pics of my 4020 and F145 3 bottom plow. The 4020 was just overhauled with a nos M&W engine kit and a new cam shaft. Tractor also has a M&W turbo. My machine shop raised the pistons height when boring the wrist pin bushings and set the valves to minimum specs. It runs great. It had very low hours on the last overhaul (before I owned it). The reason for this overhaul was when they installed the intake manifold one of the gaskets dropped out and when they reinstalled it they flipped it over. The holes still lined up but there was a small area about 3/8 inch where it could suck dirt and dust. Dad bought the tractor new in 1968. He sold it and I was able to buy it back a few years ago. Tom

Give me a break!!! What difference does it make if he wanted to paint them pink....none of your business & not your tractor.

(quoted from post at 13:10:46 04/07/21) You are not the one who painted axles yellow I hope?

Come on.....that's an honest to God working tractor, not a trailer queen show tractor!

Thats a Nice straight unit!! I like it when a person has same brand implements,, no matter what color,, on the post below of your feed/grain wagon,, thats the second one I seen, other one was at a neighbor sale,, but not even close to the condition yours looks to be,, I should have bought it as I think the scrapper got it sadly,, it was left with product in it so i was not really thinking I wanted to the repairs to make her sound again,, but now thinking they must be rather rare Enjoyed the posts and pics

Nice!!!

Did you make the extra steps? They look like they could make it much easier to climb on.

I'm with you Tom.I like to match tractor and implemrnts. They just seem to work better when you keep it the same 'color'.

Looks good! And I'm sure it runs equally well. :) It's hard for me to get used to seeing narrow front plowing, especially on a newer modern tractor. Narrows quite rare here. Wides or singles are all we see here.A single is usually relegated to cultivator. However,I do have an M with a narrow,it is under a loader.

Painting the axles any colour is not an issue until you find that the paint is just thick enough to make it hard to change wheel spacing.

The steps were made by a local welding shop. I had bought a set at a John Deere show in Ohio about 20 years ago and had them on my feeding tractor. My wife really liked them and as I get older I like them as well. Local shop made me 15 sets for about $75 each last winter. Tom

I am almost all Deere here but like seeing matched tractors and equipment of all brands. I like your Case stuff and Steve's red as well. I have everything you would need to farm in the mid to late 60's that Deere built.Tom

Yes I am the one that painted the axles yellow. I grew up in the used equipment business with my dad and we always did it that way. When the tractor was brand new dad had a friend with chrome plating equipment and he had the air cleaner pipe and the dash cover chromed. I know it is not original but it is the way I prefer it. jddrawbar, you do not deserve a break!!! You think that you know cornerpost's intent in posting his question but you are only assuming. Just because he didn't include an imogi doesn't mean that he was being critical. You know what assuming does to you?

I never even noticed the painted axles. What caught my attention was your machine shop raised the piston height when boring the wrist pin bushings.

That is something that is often over looked when having pin bushings refinished and connecting rod end machined. That changes the center to center length of a rod and affects the piston height which in turn affects the starting of the engine. The center to center spec is usually available but not piston height over block.

I just wonder where your machinist got his figures for height as that is something Deere and IH and Case and others just always left out of their specifications. And, due to manufacturing tolerences, it can vary from one engine to another which is why one seemingly identical engine will start better or worst than another.

Exactly I get so sick of the axle police I could puke . Who cares ? Im going to start painting mine random colors just to p$$ em off
