John Deere up on the rack!

So this is just one more thing that happens when you get old! I can still get up and down off of the floor, but it takes me a
minute. I had a few things that I wanted to do to the mower before the grass took off. No telling how many projects have been on
these steel horses I made twenty years ago. Besides I like to use my shop crane.

I now just what you are talking about, not being able to work on something at ground level. I back my flail mower over 4 ft wall. Then get my chair positioned. I can change blades sitting. I have a motorcycle lift table. I can pump it up to my working level. I can get up off the floor if I have something to hang on to. Stan

Oy, can I relate to that. I try to avoid working on the floor, and when (if) I get to build a new shop there WILL be some provision for a mower/atv/motorcycle lift.

It's gotten to the point where there's almost as much grunting, moaning and kvetching getting DOWN as there is getting up. And I walk like a crippled old man for the next 15 minutes at least.

Oh.

Wait...

And then add to that...

Can't remember what I needed once I get down there, so it's up and down a hundred times getting tools that I can't find once I get up!

I have been working hard at upgrading my built in lift over the last three years. I have a set of exercises that I do in bed before I get up, another set that I do while in the bathroom, and another set that I do in the living room while watching the AM news. By the end of the news I usually have 60 minutes of cardio work out done. I am also on a worn out parts repair/replacement program. So far I have had four replacements and three rebuilds.

When you stop going down to the floor, that is when you will find that you can not get back up from the floor. Then you are in trouble. I hate doing physical therapy, but we have to do something to keep our bodies in good enough shape, so that it will still be able to do what we need it to do. My body is older than I am and I also have to work to get back up.

Nice!

I twisted my knee a couple of weeks ago, and now I'm pretty slow about getting up and down. Also - it seems like I'm getting clumsier as I get older - I think that I drop things more often than I used to. Of course it could be that I just didn't notice dropping stuff back when it was real easy to pick things up off of the floor. Now when I drop something I just kick it to a central location and wait until there are three or four more things kicked beside it, then I reach down and pick them all up at the same time. I call it efficiency, to avoid an honest description.
