Update on 47 Farmall cub

I now have all the valves freed up. The #3 cylinder exhaust valve was the last one and I like to never got it to come out of the block. Had to take a pair of vise grips and clamp them to the valve and then used 2 big screw driver to pry it up and out and even then I had to lay things under the screw driver to raise them up. I'd be able to have it up and running today if the manifold gasket had come in. But they will be in tomorrow so I can do every thing but the manifold. Doing an oil change and filter and will put the head and tappet cover on so all that is left is the manifold

Its getting there. It sit low enough to fit in where many of the other tractors don't. I'd really prefer an Oliver Super 44 over the cub but this one was cheap. Olive S44 are hard to find and cost a lot most of the time

Old, good idea to prime the oil pump before you start it since it has been sitting for a while. You will see a hole in the canister where the filter goes near the top. Just take a squirt can and shoot some oil in it. Good luck with it.

When I change the filter I plan to fill the canister with oil so that should get some oil down to the pump and or pull the little plug on the other side and fill that with oil

When you put the filter in fill that little hole with oil. If not you gonna be taking the cap off the filter housing..,... Ask me how I know.

Sounds good Rich.
Slow and steady wins the race.
I am getting a lot slower but not much steadier.LOL

Me also as for the slow and steady. I also was taught to KISS so if one can take a short cut to fix something do so to save $$ and on something like this with no back story best to try to save $$ since one never knows how good or bad the engine really is

I asked this in the Farmall forum but cannot seem to get the answer so I'll ask you. What is the torque spec for the head bolts of the Cub?? The I-T manual says 45 ft/lbs is that correct?? Thanks

Thank you. I asked this in the Farmall forum and only on person gave me a close answer and all the rest just gave me things like bolt size or other waste my time answer which told me nothing other then putting me down in some way

Too bad it is not a Lo-Boy, it would be even lower and shorter for those tight spots.

True but it does sit lower then any other tractor I have and it will pretty much fit into the area I need. I am thinking about making a dump box that sits on the draw bar for making cleaning out the horse barn easier. Maybe take the little lawn dump trailer and making a mount so it hang from the draw bar since trying to back it in to a tight place would e a pain.

I did put the head on today but have to wait till tomorrow for the manifold gasket to come in

Just got the head on but can't do much more till tomorrow. Manifold gasket wasn't in this morning so have to wait till tomorrow to get it. I did wash the gas tank out with the garden hose an have vinegar in the tank right now and will let it sit a day or 2.

I'm thinking about taking a lawn type dump trailer and making a mount so it hang off the draw bar to make it easier to clean out the horse barn and also easy to back in

I have one of those and yes that might work after I repair it that is. The one I have has been sitting around so long the bottom is rusted out of it but can be repaired. Would be nice if this cub had hyds but it doesn't only a hand lift

did you flip the tractor on its side so you could fill the chambers with ATF to check for the valves to be seating??? how could it be holding for days when you were loosening the valves yesterday. plus its only a few minute test! more bull kaka flying here. i will bet money that once sqeezing valves and hammering on them they will not hold ATF not yet something like diesel or gas in those old seats full of rust. yep cracking me up too.
