Looking for experienced information here. I recently obtained the old family tractor and its in pretty rough condition. Its a 245 MF with a gas engine. It was taken to a mechanic three years ago with Fuel issues. The entire fuel system needs to be replaced now since its been sitting with the hood off, in the elements for years. Tank, fuel lines, fuel pump, and carb. Also Id like to change this old ignition system from the points to an electronic ignition system. The problem is I have no idea what year this tractor is so I cant get a parts manual for it. There is supposed to be an identification tag under the hood but its missing. So is there anybody that can help with possible year model? And if you know what these numbers mean that are stamped on the engine. Or where to go to find parts for an old gas engine like this? Thank you in advance.

Not 100% certain, but from looking at the two on line parts books you want parts book # 651381M95. It is for prior to serial number 9A349200 and has the gas and diesel engines in it. (The parts book effective with serial number 9A349200 does not have the gas engine, only diesel.) The Operator's manual for the same serial number range is # 144838M6. The service manual is # 1448778M92 for all 245s it appears. It appears this one is not available as a download. It says this service manual is in packet form and includes a binder. (Generally when it says packet you get the pages and have to put it in your own binder. Then when they say a book is an assembly, they put it in a binder so the cost for the book and shipping is more.) With the MF part numbers you can search eBay and other places for the right used OEM manuals and books.

You can use the AGCO on line parts manuals for free and they have a store where you can purchase manuals and books as well, generally available in printed or electronic formats. Here is the info for access to the on line sites. HTH

The engine is a Z145 Continental.

Have you tried to turn the engine through? It may be stuck from sitting out. You'll need to get some oil soaking in the cylinders first, even if it's not stuck. Also crack the oil pan drain and all the case drain plugs loose to let the water out. Don't drain the oils yet, just let the water out so it doesn't emulsify in the oil when it starts.

You can get the tank, fuel pump (or just gravity feed it), carb, and ignition kit here on this site.

The fuel line can be formed from 5/16 pre flared steel brake line from the auto supply. Easy to bend without a bender, just take your time and be careful not to kink it. Buy the closest length without going under, don't try to cut it and reflare,it will never be as good as the factory flares.

As for the carb, it is rare one won't clean up with a little effort. Disassemble it and soak it in muriatic acid or commercial rust remover, it will clean right up. If you do go with another carb, a rebuilt factory carb is better and cheaper than a new aluminum fit all knock off.
