Would you pay this much for 250 ft of 12-2 with ground?

Welcome to 2021. Across the board building materials are up and lead time is ludicrous. Its affect manufacturing as well.

What about a contractor who put a bid on building a house or barn? Then prices go crazy.

George

the bid contracts i have put out had a clause that if the material costs went up a certain % then the contractor had the right to withdraw

While we all seem to focus on prices in stores, there are some guys that are making pretty good money. At the library this morning I picked up a local Job Bank publication where a variety of local job offerings are posted. Mind you this was at the top end of the listings for wage but an elevator company was looking for an 'elevator mechanic' and the pay was $48.15 per hour. Minimum wage here is $15 per hour I believe for any kind of job. Canadian dollars of course, multiply by about 0.8 to convert to US dollars at today's exchange rate (if that means anything).

$50 bucks per hour is not out of line for an elevator mechanic. Do you have a clue about the amount of liability potential that person and her employer has? All if takes is one elevator car to fall a couple of floors and the lawsuits will go one for decades.

Not just that but that rate might also be "contract worker" wage.
And not really a regular full time employee.

I have even seen employers list their hourly pay based on $$ plus $$ value of benefits per hour.

I just looked on Home Depot's website, they are somewhat cheaper, and a lot cheaper if you buy 1000 foot rolls, so contractors aren't getting hit too hard.

George If I absolutely had to have it right now for some reason (and it satisfied my specs and requirements) and there was no other place within reasonable time and distance SURE Id pay it !!!!!!!! Of course if it were otherwise no rush no emergency Id shop around for the best buy, that's just how I operate, IE I shop around and compare, weight the advantages and disadvantages, make an informed wise shopping choice and save money when I can...

John,
I used 10g wire I bought last year at a flea market in Florida.

I'm glad I built the pole barn October 2019 when materials were reasonable. No damdemic.
George

I've been planning to buy a 1000 ft. spool of 12-2wg. I walked by the display today and noticed that the price had jumped $100 since the last time that I looked.

I still need the wire. . .

Buy high and sell low is my motto. . .

More to that just that. You've got about $4 trillion more dollars in circulation than at this time last year. Inflation.

I got schooled years ago, 50% down to get on the list, materials purchased and dropped on site. I'm glad too, only thing I'm getting hung up on is concrete prices. We normally stay booked 8 months out, right now we're booked solid through the end 2022.
