How many here are farmer-owned co-op members?

As to myself, I'm a member of a grain, oil and fertilizer co-op and a rural electric co-op of which my late Uncle was a founding member of in the 1940's.

I am a member of local co op. They sell fuel fertilizer and have a store that stocks other farmer needs. Generally we get a dividend from sales over the year. Part goes back into capitol funds for co op and rest in the form of a check. Amount depends upon how much you purchased over the year.

The two farmer co-ops I belong to are talking merger with each other so it will be down to one if the merger goes through. If the merger does happen the loyalty to the patrons who have been member shareholders for several generations will be even less than it is now. I am off my soap box!!!

Oh, I do belong to a rural electric co-op. We do have lower rates than the other public shareholder owned power company but I have no choice in that matter. This co-op happens to own the power lines that go past my farm.

Grain and short line coop next door.

Grain coop in town.

Fuel and fert coop a couple towns over.

All three are different coops and most do all sorts of operations I listed what I use them for. but all part of CHS.

Electric coop.

The funeral home is some sort of odd coop, it pays out a dividend when mom and dad died.

We are members with two of them, mostly for bulk fuel delivery, we do buy building supplies items from them on occasion.

Farm store
Hardware store
Grocery store
Liquor store
Fuel stations and delivery

They have their fingers into a bit of everything here.

I am a member and board director of local Co-op. We have three retail stores, a feed mill, two older fertilizer blenders, a grain elevator with two dryers, and a fuel division doing propane, heating oil, and farm fuel delivery, as well as two card lock gas/diesel self service fuel stations. There is also a complete agronomy division offering fertilizer application and seed application as well as herbicide/pesticide application. I also belong to a breeding Co-op. And a dairy processing Co-op. Only the breeding coop doesnt pay patronage. I purchas all of my Farm inputs from our Co-op, as I believe the Co-op gives me excellent service and good quality products

None. Grain, fuel, and fertilizer based Co-ops are gone around here. What is going with milk and breeding I don't know. Around 15 years ago there was talk of a farmer owned equipment dealership. That went no where most likely due to it flies in the face of what the equipment builders are trying to do in them having more direct control on the retail end. Similar talk on fertilizer around the same time but the suppliers did not want to upset their relationship with existing retailers.

Still active customer-member of large full service ag supply and grain marketing coop which has built 2 large rail loading terminals and is competive in pricing.

I am a member of a full service co-op. One share cost one hundred dollars no one can own more than one share. Co-op pays dividend according to how much you purchased through the year. This co-op is a thriving growing business.
I was also told this co-op is one of only three surviving co-ops in the state of Michigan.

My electrical supplier is a coop.
Here are two photos of our local coop elevator, myself being a member. The top photo shows some of the bins that they have for storage. The bottom shows an above-ground bin for storing corn.
See the two left tubes on the top photo? Using a one-man elevator to get to the top, I was up there helping to wire them.

There has not been a coop in the area as long as I can remember. First heard of them in common use and practicality was in KS with the double OO coops.

The corporation we sold milk to for 30-odd years fancied itself a "co-op."

Farmers owned interest and risk in the "co-op" but had no say in how it was run. The only people who were making money were the ones drawing a salary for "managing" the thing.

Other than these "milk co-ops" we had noting else along those lines around here the entire time I've been around.
