What is it?

What is this piece of shaft? Is it a gun barrel? Went to cut it but it is hard. So hard my portable bandsaw would just scratch it. I had to use a cut off wheel on my grinder. I have about 6 feet of the stuff.Didn'y notice the hole till it was cut.

Steel for rock drill. Had pin and box ends. Bit went pin end, as went deeper, add another steel.

I used a bunch of that drill steel to build a manure fork for my loader; it works great. They were so hard when I tried to sharpen the tips with my grinder, the grinder was wearing away faster than the metal. I ended up sharpening them with a cutting torch.
