Lot of twisted metal on last nights news

It's tornado season and national news showed a pole barns down south all twisted up.

What's the old saying March comes in like a lamb it goes out like a lion?

A few days ago my son sent me a pic of a pole barn made into a house. He thought it was cool. I told him a pole barn is the last place I would want to be in a tornado.

In like a lion, out like a lamb.

Except, it's MID-March. Yesterday was two days off the exact middle, the ides if you will, of March. March is neither going in nor going out.

You wouldn't want to be in a regular house during a tornado either, no different than a pole barn.

Years ago someone posted a pic of a school bus that had been buried to provide tornado shelter. The rear door was open to the daylight in the side of a small hill. I hope it never got used.

ides
[ ahydz ]
noun (used with a singular or plural verb)
(in the ancient Roman calendar) the fifteenth day of March, May, July, or October, and the thirteenth day of the other months.

A friend of mine who lived through the tornadoes in OK city several years ago, had his new house built with a reinforced master bedroom closet, basically dual purpose bomb shelter. It seemed like a good idea to me.

Might depend on the pole barn. I have a couple that will take a lot of wind but they are also all metal with the metal pole down 4 foot in the ground

I saw an article once about a reinforced room in tornado areas. I think it was 3/4 plywood both sides of the walls. Said it could save a lot of lives.
I always thought a modified dry concrete septic tank would make a good shelter.

A house had interior walls, which make it a little stronger, and i have 10nch blocks walls, with a bond beam in it half way up, not that would help much, but it's as straight as a string!

(quoted from post at 20:03:29 03/18/21) The original saying was in like a lion, out like a lamb, but I think your version is more accurate, George.

As I recall, the saying goes: if March comes in like a lamb, it will go out like a lion or if it comes in like a lion, it will go out like a lamb.
