Hi I'm new here I just got a 1968 massey Ferguson 12 hydro shift garden tractor and need some help with the hydrostatic rear end where to put fluid in trans and rear end along with amounts please and thank you for any help

I have one out back and you add the fluid under the seat in a
little metal tank. Usually keep that tank around 1/2 full. Been a
while since mine last worked.

mine dosent have stank just a plug under the seat on the left hand side that's why I'm having problems I talked to a mf dealer to day he said it was an older one is why it didn't have a tank under the seat but couldn't help me if I didn't buy a manual from him so I looked up ss# to find the year and it lead me here

I believe AMF built those for Massey. You likely know that
already. There is probably more info on a garden tractor
specific site than here. We tend to delve into larger old stuff
here with an occasional departure from the truth. Sorry i cant
be of more help.

Right. He's not going to have any information on a 60-ish year old garden tractor in his head. It's in the manual, which he doesn't have on hand either. I don't see him as being unreasonable.

Why not buy a manual? I don't understand waffling over a $20-$30 owners manual which will tell you everything you need to know about the tractor, not just where to put the transmission oil. How many hundreds of dollars do you have invested in this machine already? A manual is a small expense by comparison, and it could save you hundreds of dollars in repairs in the future.

My advise is to order an owners manual. ASAP. Today.Order from Jensales;Ebay;or your local Massey dealer. All the questions you are asking will be answered in the book. Plus a bunch
of stuff you didn't know you needed to know.I'm with barnyard,I'll never understand why so many folks balk at buying a book for their 'new' toys.Do they think that they can ask
online and the answer will magicly appear for free?I don't know. That 40 dollar book can/will save hundreds of dollars in future expences. That 40 dollar book is the cheapest thing you
will ever buy for your 'new' tractor.BTW,When I buy a 'new' implement-'toy' that I am not familiar with, one of the first things I do is to order a book.Do it today, and enjoy your
tractor to the fullest.
