a spring has sprung

I have water seeping out of the ground in the middle of my front yard (that spot has always been a bit greener than the rest of the yard during dry spells but now there's actual water coming up there). I don't have any pipes within a hundred feet and I had the town guys come out and check that the water main for the fire hydrant down the road isn't leaking.

Has anyone else here dealt with that sort of thing? Wondering if I should get a trencher and put in a French drain, or do something else about it. If it weren't right in the front yard I'd even consider putting in an old-fashioned spring house! Thanks.

Yes, theres a septic tank but its a few hundred feet away and
the leach field runs nowhere near this spot.

I have multiple spring-fed ponds, though theyre all a half-mile
or more distant from this.

Around here they are sometimes called a mud vein-mostly wet except during a dry spell. I had one near the bottom of a hillside that I had my brother dig a very small size pond out of. I thought it would be a handy place for cows to water. Well it never held water, and in fact, it dried up! No other wet spot ever showed up after that either, so I guess we actually sealed it off. Mark.

I have water that comes out of the ground in the middle of my hayfield almost like an artesian well. I have a lot of heavy clay in my area and it creates a layer that the water cannot penetrate. Sometimes the water follows little mouse-holes or other rodent paths and suddenly comes to the surface when it has nowhere else to go. What kind of soil do you have in your area? Dave

Texas has numerous "springs". Several produce enough water for retail water sellers to sell it commercially in large quantities. Springs are identified on the container as to the source. Sit beside bottles of city water on the shelf.
