How to remove???

I'm working on my Oliver 88, The splines are just about completely gone where the coupler goes on the input shaft to the transmission. This sleeve if where the oil seal rides. It has an o ring under it and is up against a snap ring on the shaft. It is stuck tight on the shaft, the only place to get behind it to pry is the gap in the snap ring. I blew the dirt out of the splines under it and have been soaking it with Aero Kroil for a couple of days. New ones are NLA. If I get carried away trying to get it off and scuff up the surface, then the oil seal will be damaged when installed on the new shaft. Any ideas on how to get it off?? Can I heat it enough to get it off without distorting it? I'm at a stand still until I get it off.

That is a tough one. It is hard to tell for sure from here but it appears that it is stuck by the combination of the damage to the shaft and the very end of the sleeve rather than from rust. How about grinding the very end of the sleeve away to eliminate the damaged part of both the sleeve and the shaft? That would give you some room to get into the splines with a very small burr to grind the high places down.

I don't think that the snap ring will expand enough to come out over the top of the sleeve.

I'm not familiar with a ( roll head bar). With the snap ring in place, there is no room to pry on the sleeve except where the space in the snap ring is. My small prybar that will fit doesn't budge it. After thinking about it, I may try to remove the shaft with the sleeve in place and then try to get it off. The shaft slides forward if I can get the other snap rings on the shaft off first, so the sleeve would not interfere when removing the shaft.

If you dont like that one you're really not going to like the next one. It's down between some gears in the middle. Do you have a manual?
I had to modify my snap ring pliers then I bent a piece of wire to slip over the handles to hold the pliers open once I got a good grip on the ring.
Can you file the burs down then pry the sleeve off?

Got it out. I took the 2 snap rings loose on the transmission side the shaft and pulled it forward and then took the snap rings off and pulled it out. Put it in the vise and got the snap ring causing the problem off and the I could pry on the spacer and got it off ok. Waiting on parts to go back together. Thanks for the help. Chris

Also called a roll head pry bar among other names. VERY handy tools with lots of uses. Often used in pairs--one on each side of a gear, bearing or pulley. Link below is just the first thing that popped up on Amazon to show what they look like--they're available pretty much anywhere in a wide range of sizes and price points.

There weren't any burrs, the o-ring under the sleeve was holding it. As soon as I got pryed past the
o-ring, it slid right off.

I have one of those, didn't know the name of it. That's what I used to pry it loose.

I've heard them called a ladyfoot or ladyslipper bar also, plus I'm sure there's lots of other names. There's also a version where the head pivots and locks at various positions--often referred to as an indexable bar. As above, the link below is just the first thing Amazon popped up to show what they look like--there's lots of different ones around.
