Walker mowers

I'm considering a walker mower because of the grass collector but am wondering about the pros and cons from you experienced users. Will they handle climbing steep grades? Gas or diesel? make of motor?

I have used two ancient Walker mowers for years, and absolutely recommend them. I bought them used at an auction, one running, one having been scavanged for parts. Putting that one back in operating condition gave me a chance to know the machine, and I am very impressed with their design, workmanship, and materials. They are made for commercial use where down time is expensive. I've not used them on steep hills, but see no reason they wouldn't do the job. One thing they don't like is wet grass - the chute plugs easily. They also prefer grass - I've tried rough country mowing, and that only works if you take it very slow. As far as what engine, most users seem to prefer the diesel engine. I have hundreds of trouble-fee hours on both of them. I've had occasion to call the Walker factory, and found them to be very helpful with my questions, as are the dealers I've contacted. I'd recommend you call the factory - they will be honest in their recommendation for your conditions. If you don't need the pickup system, the also make hopper-less models.

I'm thinking goats might make a good
mower. They can climb steep hills and
spread organic fertilizer pellets. LOL

Some friends that have a landscape business run 4-5 of them and get a new one every 2-3 years. They are only around 36 inches wide. They also run one big Exmark. The Walkers are more money but they are a top tier unit.

I have an old Gravely two wheeler. It has AG tires and I mow up a hill too steep to walk straight down. It's well balanced. I prefer mowing up the hill at an angle based on how steep it is.

My son bought a 48 inch hustler. Kawasaki engine. He likes walking
instead of riding. Not sure if you couldn't get better tires if grass is
too slick. It goes fast in high gear. geo.
