I recently found a 1929 John Deere D sitting in a barn. it's on full steel, hood and back fenders are in good shape. It is stuck. it's been sitting in this barn for 60 years. What is a tractor like this worth as is and what is it worth fixed up?

Its worth about half what youll have in it restoring it . I would love to find an early d on steel like that . Could be thats its stuck from sitting so long quart of atf down each plug hole and let it soak a week or two

Well I alway thought that I'll pay what I feel it is worth. I wanted a tractor and had waited 30 some years for it. Im not sure if I'm going to paint it all up or leave it the way it is. There's alot of people that like them in there work clothes and will pay more for them. If it's all there carb, mag and other things I would start out at 2000 for it if not some more.

My dad and I used to restore John Deere tractors together many years ago. I have been away from it so long I don't know the values anymore. My dad is 83 now and I thought it would be a fun project for us to do together. I did ok then, I paid $350, and it is a very nice tractor. thank you

I would pay that for one if I Could find one and didnt have a 420c tore completely apart an engine to rebuild and about to split my big tractor

They might have been very common back in the day but are not laying around like an N series Ford in 2021. I've only seen one locally and heard stories about one
locally but not more. I'm sure they were more common in the wheat belt among other places but I am sure many got scrapped including the scrap campaigns during
WWII. Glad that the OP did well.

Dont know what it's worth in it's present condition. But it you're thinking of buying it to 'restore' and resell for a handsome profit, forget it. That ship sailed a long time ago.You would be lucky to get the sum of the parts out of it. You would basicly just 'donate' the original tractor and your time. Now,if you want it for the joy of restoreing and enjoying the tractor later or for some sentimental reason,by all means go for it.Price is not the main priority. These guys here can give you an idea of current 'value'. Go have a conversation with the current owner. A fair price is one where both parties are happy with. You might surprised..

There was a 1927 JD D in the Omaha area that sold a couple weeks ago on full steel for $4000. It was free and they stated it could run with little work. With a stuck engine and depending on how straight the metal is, you could be in the $2500 - $3500 range easy. They still seem to be fairly popular among collectors and $2000 seems a bit low unless the sheet metal is really beat up bad. Just my 2 cents.

160,000 John Deere Ds built
524,000 Ford 8Ns built

If I were to acquire a John Deere, I might opt for a D, as they were relatively rare, if not nonexistent, here in New England!
