Yesterday morning I was up pretty early...At 6:30 AM I headed 100 miles west to a huge estate sale located 11 miles west of Yates Center,KS....There was a 100 year accumulation on this sale...Sales like this one are getting to be few and far between and are worth the drive..The moon was shining brightly in the west when I left..After 7 miles I stopped at the local truck stop to gas up the 1991 Ford Ranger....In one days time gas had went up 14 cents a gallon to $2.49..A heavy fog set in and I drove in it the rest of the way to the sale..Just west of Deerfield,MO a semi had hit a large deer doing quite a bit of damage...The driver was out picking up pieces off the hiway..West of Fort Scott,KS I started meeting dozens of pickups with trailers hauling rock climbers-jeeps-pickups...The new season was opening up at KSRocks south of Mapleton,KS..Depspite the fog I made it OK and was bidder #15...About 11 AM the fog left and it was a nice sunny day with temps in the mid 60's...There was a large crowd with some coming farther than I did..I knew several in the crowd..Here are some pics with results...It was a fun day

Oliver OC-96 diesel track loader -$4,000-wasnt running and needed work-$4,000 -torque convertor was leaking oil-injector lines were off-etc.

The two 12.4x38 tires leaning by the tree were the next to last thing to sell a little before 5 PM..I got them for $5.00...As I went to load them a man and a woman came up and claimed that they had bought them as part of another pile of tires east of the saw that was between them...I said I dont think so and showed them my receipt and they shut up....I was standing 3 ft from the auctioneer when they sold....If I hadn't got there to load them when I did they would have been gone..

They sold the farm in 2 tracts....Tract 1 was 164 acres with the buildings and tract 2 was 81 acres...They averaged $1617 per acre....They then combined them and they sold for $1725 per acre which locals said was about right..The buildings didnt amount to much..This is pasture and hay ground at the east edge of the Kansas Flint Hills..Its scenic country and I love to get off the beaten path to see it...In 2016 I drove the road by this farm while hunting old one room schools in Woodson County Kansas.

Thanks for posting this 1206. I always enjoy seeing sale results. It looked like some of the tractors sold for a reasonable price.

Great pics! I love that kind of auction. And yes, they are becoming few and far between.

It is amazing how quickly untended buildings will deteriorate... as 50 years is really just a drop in the bucket, when one considers the span of time.

Thanks...30-40 years ago these sales were quite common but not anymore...Kansas is just full of old abandoned 2 story farm houses-barns-etc...In April I may spend 3-4 days in northern Kansas tracking down old one room schools, country churches, abandoned 2 story homes and barns-old farm machinery,etc..Maybe I can find a good sale to go with the trip..Some of those counties up there had 15-20,000 people about 100 years ago and are now down to 3,000-4,000....

Anymore those are decent prices for my part of the country...We are running out of people that are interested in old tractors...Lots of collectors are in their 70's and 80's and are done buying.

Thank you for posting, 1206. Takes a lot of effort to put together pictures and descriptions. You do a very good job on documenting your auction adventures.

Thank you for taking the time to put all of this together. Its always interesting to see what has sold and for what prices. I suspect that if the sale was near me in PA / NY area the prices would have been higher. Although with nnalert - who knows. Its getting better, but there have been very few live auctions. Maybe it will pick up this spring.

1206SWMO if ever you are up this way I can show you a lot of one room schoolhouses. They are disappearing slowing. Our county had close to 100 one room schools at one time. When the wife's school closed her dad bought a section of blackboard for each child. Before I started, a school a mile from us closed so had to walk (most of the time) a mile and a half to school.

The size of farms gradually went from 40-160 acres each up to 2000-4000 acres each....Instead of having 8-10 kids farm families went down to having just 2 kids..There never were any big towns in some of these counties..Click on the link below to see Jewell County Kansas...In 1900 it had 18,148 residents at its peak.....By 2018 it was projected that it only has 2,841 residents..At one time it had 170 one room schools and about 30 country churches..

Another is Smith County Kansas...In 1900 it had 16,384 residents...By 2018 it was down to 3,853 residents...Martin Township only has 24 residents..I love driving the back roads in this part of North Central Kansas..Its very scenic..

My Mom came from a family of 9 kids and if everyone had lived Dad also came from a family of 9 kids..3 died as infants...Both were on farms in Central Kansas.
Jewell County

What county in NE Kansas? My county here in Missouri once had 130 one room schools...I've tracked down over 30 them that still exist...
cvphoto80022.jpg

I found this one about 8 miles from me by going to a farm sale..It had been moved about a 1/2 mile from its original location and was well hidden from view..Its the old Round Prairie school....The school I missed going to by 2 years still stands 1 mile from me and is 1/4 th mile from where it originally was....Its now a farm shop.

Thank you for sharing! I sure enjoy it. The Massey Harris Mustang and John Deere 336 baler stood out as good deals in my opinion.

Thanks for the great report/pictures, Blaine. That sort of auction is really fun to attend, and they are getting few and far between here in upstate NY, too. Maybe 1 or 2 every other year.

Thank you for posting this. That B with cultivators was nice dont see many with cultivators around. Lots of good stuff. Just curious. what did the Ford truck to the left of the IH truck bring?

Really enjoyed the pictures and your descriptions. I have driven west from Wisconsin and Iowa out to sales like that. They are a lot of fun. I remember one about 15yrs. ago.....lots of old cars and trucks....even several Harley and Indian motorcycles. Right before the sale started, we could hear a low flying plane approaching.....guy landed a small Piper Cub with huge balloon tires in the wheat field and walked over and got a bidder's number !!

Keep up the great sale reporting

Thank you for taking the time to post the pictures abd auction results . I always enjoy them alot.

please help me understand the sale of the land. they sold the 2 parcels, and then they sold them again as one parcel? so who owns them now?

As many others have said, "I always enjoy looking at your posts of auction results and thank you for doing this. Your efforts are much appreciated even though I don't always say so."

Was that Case a 730 or a 830?

I believe the ad showed it as a 730 and it appeared to not have a PTO.

If it was an 830 my son missed out out - he passed on going because of those two things.

Thanks for another great auction post, you are a fine fella to do this and share it with us. That baler and disc were the cheapest things sold at that auction. I remimber going to auctions all the time when I was a kid with Grandad. Wish those days were still here.

Thanks for taking the time to post these results and pictures. Its nice seeing what stuff actually sells for in other parts of the country. Sales like that one are long gone around my area.
