Hauling costs

Can someone give me a vague idea what it might cost to haul one ton from Georgia to the San Francisco Bay area? I am thinking of bidding on
a generator but have no idea what it may cost to haul.

How big? big enough for a semi? or a smaller outfit?I hear 3.00 loaded mile. Common carrier truckfrieght would be cheaper. However, there might be a chance of a back haul of a combine from western Colorado to Northcarolina.

I am thinking common carrier. I have the means to fork it off or go pick it up from a yard.

Well anyway ya cut it it is probably going to cost more then it is worth even as a partial it will have a minimum and even if it is a buck a mile as a LTL or fill out . As each day the price of fuel goes up so will the cost to haul.

A 2000 lb generator sounds like LTL freight.
There are so many if ands and buts with LTL it is hard to estimate a price.
Your best bet is to call a LTL broker and get a quote.
You can get a better price threw a broker than dealing direct with the LTL company.

You could check with fastenal, don't know if they will haul that heavy but they have hauled 1,000 pounds for me. They are reasonable but slow, may take a month.

Believe it or not you might try Fastenal it is a bolt and hardware company, they haul freight store to store. I am not sure this may be a larger item then they handle. The main issue would be you would need to get someone to deliver the item to the store in IL like a tow company with a flatbed or a courier service.
San Fran location

I've used Fastenal before and recommend them. Be sure to get a quote firest. If not it puts things out of order. Wingnut

give me weight and dimensions and on a skid or not. Then tell me both zip codes. I will let u know on Monday. bill

You might try the "hauling schedule" on the left side of this site. Last item in the Community section. Look for somebody needing a backhaul first, and then advertise a "need hauled" post. Most guys will do a backhaul pretty reasonably (like just fuel), because something is better than nothing.

Or take a road trip and pick it up. But bear in mind that most any way you do it, the haul will probably cost more than the item is worth. Even if you get for way under market value, the haul will probably make it more expensive then buying one locally.

Contact Blue Lane Freight at Fastenal for an estimate. You will need dimensions and weight. It will need to be delivered to a Fastenal store and picked up at a Fastenal store. And it must be on a pallet not over 48 inches wide. Very economical rates in my opinion. I have used them with success.

While I agree Fastenal can most times give you a good price.
Fastenal will NOT haul stuff from Georgia to the San Francisco Bay area right now.

Another thing about Fastenal is they are great for regular size pallets with small boxes they often will not take bigger than a standard pallet.
40 by 48 inches.
Our local store does not have a fork lift.
Only one of those crank push around high reach pallet jack.

The company I work for does a lot of interline hauling for Fastenal.

Cost more than it is worth. Will cost in the 1.50 -2.00 mile as a partial. And has a 7-10 day delivery time. This would be on a flat trailer. Could pickup and deliver to your door if you can lift it off.
