It was a challenge for an old man to route the new hose. No way would I be able to use anything different than the cloth sleeve. The problem was his is under cylinders and it rubbed on the cylinder to the left.

I ground a 45 on pins to help center cylinders.

I had previously add protection so the

I go to my local hydraulic shop and buy parts.
Last time, long time ago a rebuilt kit from terramite was around $60 with shipping. I buy parts for many cylinders fo $60. A lady runs the shop with he son and daughter. I've learned a thing from the owner.

Every posting, I think, is a learning opportunity for someone so I am not suggesting you do this Geo, but I have seen used or scrap fire hose made in to a sleeve for hydraulic hoses in a high wear environment. Not everyone has access to hose, but some of us that do double duty as volunteer firemen do...

George, I FEEL YOUR PAIN a few years back the first wife and I pulled a weeks volunteer duty at a Christian Family Camp in Northern Ohio somewhere where I offered to help with mechanical or electrical chores.........Soooooo they had an old nasty dirty ratty backhoe in need of a new hyd hose that I was assigned to fix.......The hose fitting was like IMPOSSIBLE to get to and remove in the middle of 6 others side by side with barelyyyyyyyyyy enough room to get 1/6 wrench turn at a time........That turned out to be the EASY PART......What was hard was making the new stiff hose bend just enough at the correct angle to get it started grrrrrrrrrrrrrr Having to remove them all would have taken a week lol Then it was the dirtiest nastiest job ever with all the years of hyd fluid and dirt and grime and crud getting the old hose out, I pretty well had to strip off and burn my clothes when I was finished

Oh well it was for a good cause, even though Id rather take a beating then do it again

I would say my biggest challenge was rebuilding a 1962 XKE 6 cylinder 3.6 , 3 side draft SU. That car wasn't made for a mechanic to work on, but it was the fastest car I've driven.
It set the rosd course that speed record at 172. Of course aluminum body and no windshield. Back then they had to sell 300 production cars to be considered a race car and very little modification to engine or cat.

I am always in favor of reusing things. Don't have any firehoses. Except for one which is used often.

George! An XKE! I always knew there was more to you than Terramites! When my dad passed, my brother got the XKE, and I got the Ford 641. As much as I love the looks of a Jag, I think I came out ahead!

I've used old radiator hoses many times.
