Looking to buy a discbin at auction 150 miles away, can you pull this home and how fast can you pull it on the road or should you have it trailer?

When I worked for a dealer in the 70's, we hauled about everything, all over. Obviously, wheel bearings and tires need to be good. The biggest scare I had was making a left turn with a 9' haybine behind a pickup. The PTO had slid forward, pulling the swing latch rope[which had been tied to it] allowing the machine to swing out wide to the field position!

I pulled a NH460 about 80 miles behind a Geo Tracker. I did make sure the wheel bearings where well greased and stopped a number of times to check them. The 460 was as heavy as the Tracker so I didn't drive any faster then 45.

If you are interested in doing it legally with minimum drama call the state DOT and get an over-width permit. One time when I was pulling one long distance the swing cylinder was gradually opening up so I will suggest chaining it to prevent that. The DOT routed me on the interstate so I had to maintain over the minimum speed but that was no problem. I took a spare tire just in case, and of course I had lights to attach to the back of it to make it all legal.

The best time to pull it is at daylight on a Sunday morning. You might make the trip and never pass another vehicle. If you have a 3/4 ton or bigger truck go as fast as you want. I pull lots of 60 and 70 ft grain augers out of IL and run 55-60 all the time. Add a safety chain and take a spare tire. Chaining the swing is a good idea as well. Tom

My Gehl 2415 came to me from 200+ miles away and it was pulled. Take a spare tire, a jack, and some blocking, pop off the caps and check and grease the bearings, pick a day that traffic will be light (Sunday morning), and go get it. Be sure to stop every few miles to see if the hubs are heating up. A side pull disc mower conditioner is worse to pull than a center pivot because you will be dodging mail boxes the whole way.

I bought mine 30 miles from home, but have towed it to my cousins place 45 miles away to cut hay on their farm. No issues with towing it at 45mph.

Dealer towed my new Kuhn 250 miles, didn't have the one I wanted on the lot so they found it somewhere else and went to get it.
When I purchased my round baler I towed it 290 miles back to the house, drove 50-55 mph.

It would be very easy to kill people with that combination.
