I am not posting this to throw a wrench in jm.s world.
This is just information and an opinion of a person
who I feel knows a lot about things and works real
world repairing stuff. Yes, he is on YouTube but I have
experience in mechanical repair the first 20 years of
my career life and I can tell you this guy is above
average. Skip ahead to the 2.50 minute mark, there
until the 15 minute mark he is going on about his
dislike for reman engines and the reasons why. I think
if you watch that part it will show you that he has
some definite knowledge and he has a worthy
opinion. At 15 min to the end is where the most
details are given that may apply to your question
above. Now I will say that he is a little more vocal and
..wound up.. in this video compared to his normal
demeanor. I will warn you there is some minor
profanity in it 4 or 5 places if that kind of thing bothers
you. Another thing that struck me he pointed out
during disassembly of the tractor with the engine
problem is due to design the difficulty he had
removing the shaft that drives the front axle. Which he
needed to do to open the bottom of the engine to
diagnose the gear drive train problem. ..who would
design an engine with the cam inj. pump drive gears
on the back of the engine in a tractor??.. On that
tractor you have to basically unbolt and pull the front
axle forward to pull it out. My understanding on a
similar sized Deere it pulls out basically like a rear
drive pickup drive shaft. I understand none of this
may apply to the model you may be looking at. Also
chances are with good maintenance many of these
items may never give you trouble. I always revert to
the fact that anything man made can and will break.
Hope this helps one way or another. Only opinions
based off some experience.
