I almost made this mistake last night.

And we don't use pop or soda.
It could be a Pepsi or even a Dr Pepper.
It's called a Coke.

My wife will ask me to pick up some Coke's at the store.
I come home with Dr Pepper cause I know that is what she drinks.
And we both knew what we were talking about.

And up in NH they used to call it tonic. And malts were Frappes Malts were shakes. I have not been there in several years now so don't know if they still use those names or not.

Cat guy, Growing up in the northern part of NH it was always soda. In the southern part tonic and soda are both common.

Some called it Soda water. Coke Bottled a drink and bottle had soda water on it in the1920s Some said lets get a soda water and square peanut rounder even into the 60s. Lol

(quoted from post at 07:35:50 02/16/21) It's of no consequence until it gets cold enough to freeze the jar of shine in the glove box.

Now that would be cold and losing a jar of good shine would be a natural disaster.

Beer will freeze easily, but liquor has more alcohol so it takes lower temperatures to freeze. If shine freezes above zeroF it is some really weak shine.

I keep mine in a 1948 Hotpoint fridge. Keeps the carbonated adult beverages cold in the summer and warm in the winter!

Out here in the west we called it pop. We had some neighbors from the east that called it soda. Alot of the time it was called sodapop. I looked up the history of it once but now I cant remember what it said.

I'm from the deep south and no one who's a Southerner calls carbonated drinks 'colas', 'pop', 'sodas' , they are all cokes regardless of brand.

While I'm at it, for years when you ordered tea in a restaurant in the South, you got sweetened iced tea. We in the South do not drink hot tea, only iced tea. I believe hot tea and unsweetened tea are outlawed in many states. I blame the misunderstanding on fern bars from the 60's which introduced unsweetened and hot tea to people who didn't want it to begin with. So, now when I order tea, I always make sure it comes sweetened because no matter how many of those sugar packets you add to unsweetened tea, it's just not the same as tea sweetened in the kitchen.

When my sister first moved to Texas, 40 plus years ago, she made a comment to another employee that she had lost her pop. She was asked how old he was. From then on, she referred to a soft drink as a coke.
I just copied that picture and sent it to her and her daughter. LOL

I have always called it soda, the reason was because my moms old boss, and at one time our landlord, packed me around everywhere he went for years. Everyone(kids) called him Pop. When you are 3 or 4 one Pop is enough.
