600 Ford Bushing problem

I have a 1954 Ford 600 tractor. I bought a Pivot axle pin and a axle bushing. The pivot pin works fine, threads into the axle housing fine. Problem is, I cannot get the axle bushing to fit, not even close. It is to big for the housing. I have the part number that all the listings say I need, and it fits the pivot pin perfectly. What could be wrong ?

You could have it turned down to size. Take the old bushing so it can be measured.

How much too big is it? If it's just a few thousandths, rig up some way to hold it in a drill and spin it while holding a flap disc grinder to it.

It didn't have an old bushing in it. I thought about that, having it turned down, but there has to be the correct bushing for this machine. It is at least a 16th of an inch as far as I can see. Maybe not that much but a lot. It says it is the correct bushing on every site I have been on too. I just hope somehow or another the wrong bushing wasn't put in the bag. That is my luck. thank you for the reply and suggestions.

I am pretty sure I wouldn't be able to sand it down evenly enough. Until I know for sure I can't find the right one I will wait for a little while. Thank you for the suggestion.

My gut tells me there is still some of a very worn out bushing in the axle. The outside fit of the
bushing isn't critical as long as it is tight. I would use a die grinder or such and open up the
axle to make the bushing fit.

Hi, thank you for the reply. I can see the old bushing in the axle, not sure how I can get it out. I can't get a good hit on it with a big socket. I don't see any old bushing in the housing on the outside frame work where you first put the pivot axle pin in. Is there one that goes there for sure too? I am afraid to grind that out and ruin it. I don't have a die grinder. I am going to see if my neighbor who works on a lot of things might have an idea. Thank you for the reply.

I haven't taken the old one out of my axle yet. I do see that one. But I am wondering about the outside housing where the pivot axle pin first goes in. THat is where I thought the bushing went I bought. I am trying to find out if there is a bushing there or not. Thank you for the reply.

The bushing goes in the axle. Pin is supposed to be fixed in the housing, the axle moves on the pin, hence that is where the bushing goes.

That is great you sent me that schematic. Thank you very much. I found one for another model and kinda figured there wasn't a bushing in the first part of the housing. I did get the old bushing out of the axle and have to put new one in. That is why I got on this site for the great people who try to help. Thank you all for your help.
