I have a Ford nna I believe 1953 or 1954 but the steering freezes up when it's cold I have use torch to free up the steering. I think might be water in the oil but can't find place to drain or fill with new oil.
also can you put grease in it instead of oil and how

thanks

I don't know if there is a drain, but if it's full of water it will be a nasty mess that needs to come apart to clean it up. Expect to find some pitted bearings and rusty seal surfaces.

The longer it stays full of water the more damage will occur.

The water is probably coming down the tube under the steering wheel. I got into that on the TO 35 Ferguson. The aftermarket steering wheel was designed different and channeled water down the tube. When I resealed the steering gear I drilled a hole at the bottom of the tube, above the seal to let the water out.

If there is no drain or fill plug, possibly when it's apart you could drill and tap it for grease fittings. Then fill it with grade 0 or 00 grease. It is a simifluid grease, thin enough not to channel away from gears, but thick enough to stay put with less than perfect seals.

"can you put grease in it instead of oil"
Yes. My Jubilee would drain itself. I don't remember the details how I used a grease gun to install the grease. I think mine had a square pipe like plug on the stearing gear box.
Water had to get inside some how, so you may need to take it apart, clean up the mess and figure out how the water got inside.
Did you clean tractor with a pressure washer or leave tractor outside?
Did you post on the FORD site?

One of the bottom bolts may be the drain. When it is warm enough that it's not frozen, take 1 bolt out at a time to see if one of them is the drain. If it's not, put it back and try another one. Go to the John Deere store and get a tube of cornhead grease and pump it in.

I didn't know the answer so I looked in the manuals. The steering box doesn't have a drain, the repair manual says to drain out the oil when rebuilding, after it is out of the tractor. There is a 1 1/4" expansion plug on the bottom of the steering box but the parts manual doesn't show an exact location. To add oil there is a square pipe plug on the front of the steering box where the steering tube goes in, to fill use extreme pressure gear lubricant: 80 wt in winter and 90 wt in summer, fill to top. I use gear oil in mine. That info comes from the Ford shop manual, the Ford operators manual says to use "grade "O" grease with a suction gun and fill to the level of the filler plug hole". Confused yet? The lubrication maintenance says to check and fill steering box through the square pipe plug, if needed, every 100 hours. The only opening for the water to get in would be down the steering tube under the steering wheel, I would advise keeping that area covered if it lives outside. Good luck and welcome to the site.
