Farmall 300 always has run good, but lately it cuts off sometimes. Always start back up and runs fine. I thought it was coil but changes it out and same thing. Set points didn't help. Good gas flow. Maybe condensor. What do you guys think. thanks.

If you put a test light connected to the coil input on the alligator end, and grounded where you can see it on the probe end, you will be able to see if the ignition circuit is staying on when it stops running. The key switches do go bad. If it quits and the light stays on, it could also be the wire going to the points, or the points pass through grounding on the distributor case. Jim

I had a similar incident like that. It would just quit. I would get off, check spark and gas, both okay. Installed a ballast resistor for power going to coil. Haven’t had a problem yet. Ballast resister drops voltage and coil doesn’t overheat.

Get one of those spark testers that you can put in line with a wire to a plug, and visibly see a spark in the window. When it quits next time, try cranking it to see of you have spark or not.

Check to see if you have power going to the coil with an ohm meter.

Need to figure out if it is a gas, or electrical thing, that is causing the thing to cut out, else you'll double your random part swapping efforts.

I have 2 tractor that will do that once in a while. Has to do with either the switch going bad or a loose wire some place. I have both set up so I can hot wire them when that happens
