The '79 JD 4230 had a 4" exhaust because the popular 4430 used a turbo on the same engine and put out 125 vs 100 hp. I had one that was
cosmetically restored and I didn't like the little 1 ½" exhaust pipe on the oval OEM muffler. So I bought a 4' Chrome stack for the sucker and yes it was
loud even through the Sound Guard cab and ear muffs......but load her up with American Flags and get in a parade at idle RPMs loping along and she was
sweet music.....crowd liked it too as I got lots of "thumbs up".

When I did that on my 4230 my neighbor offered to buy me a muffler. He raised small animals and said they went beserk when I worked the field next to his buildings. Nowadays I ask my wife to repeat things quite often. Shoulda thought ahead.

LMAO on your reply. I sold mine to the local do everything guy who lived on the highway in and out of the nearby town. One day I was driving by and noticed a nice flat black oval muffler on it like I took off and threw away. I had to stop and rib him about it.
