What is this Oil leak?

Oil is leaking out of small hole in my mf65 gas. Is this a rear main seal leak
where the little hole is underneath tranny? What parts do I need to change this?
What is involved with this overhaul? If it's the Rear main seal, is there something
else I should be doing while this is apart.

Here's pictures

It's either engine oil, trans oil, OR a little of each. If it's the rear crank seal, a split is needed, AND oil pan has to come down as the seal lower two bolts com in through the front of rear main cap.

Is that the hole where there's supposed to be a cotter pin hanging out to rattle around and keep the hole clear? My MF has one.

I have fixed many tractor seal leaks over the last 25 years by just adding Seal lube by NU Tech available on e-bay. I have a MF 1085 that was leaking oil from front engine seal and I order a 8 oz bottle of that stuff. Direction said I needed 2-3 bottles but one bottle fixed it and that was 25 years ago and it has not leaked since. I have used it in power steerings and hydraulics even with wet brakes and no problems just solutions. I don't sell the stuff but it sure has saved me a lot of time and expense. Its well woth a try. Wont fix a torn sealbut it will soften seals that have hardened on old equipment. I'm just trying to help others out!

How bad is it leaking?

Not uncommon for them to leak a little. A leaking rear seal can leave a big mess and have minimal effect on the engine oil consumption.

Be sure the engine oil is not overfull, as in overfilled or contaminated with gas.

It can also be the front transmission seal.

I have greatly slowed rear main seals by running the oil below the full mark. As long as you know the oil consumption history, running it low will not hurt it.

A leaking rear seal is often a symptom of more serious problems like loose main bearings and excess blow-by. A restricted crankcase breather will also increase crankcase pressure. Only replacing the seal may be a temporary fix or no improvement at all if the engine is getting tired.

If you do go in to repair it, while there it would be a good time to replace the front transmission seal. If it has a dual clutch it will have 2 seals.

Also look up top. A leaking valve cover gasket can sneak it's way down and appear to be a rear seal.

Thanks for advice steve@advance, motor oil looks good, got a 8" area under transmission leak on floor-not a puddle. Valve cover looks good.

If the oil is clear ,, which looks to be the case in the picture ,, its transmission oil. If the oil is black ( same colour as engine oil ,, its the engine rear seal leaking..

I recently had to replace both OIL SEALS and bearings on the INPUT shaft, etc, etc, of a 1963 6 sped MF Transmission....NO multipower
...AS PER PICTURES..

Good Luck

I should have mentioned.....I no longer dismantle the input drive with out removing the TOP Transmission cover....
Reason...
If I discover any problems, then the owner is contacted... they must make a call....to replace OIL SEALS on the input shaft...and NOT to eliminate internal problems...????????
A proper set of Pliers is a MUST
