cleaned up around the cows trough and give them another bale so i hopefully wont have to start the tractor in this -30 weather close to -40 coming this weekend. the water heater works pretty good keeping the water warm. put a set of door covers over half the tank for cold weather. that helps also. stupid bull figured out how to open them. they just flip open and sit on the side.

Looks awfully dry . When it gets really cold my trough will freeze over all but about a one foot circle right where the heater sits

Smartest thing I’ve done is put in a Cobett cattle waterer 20 years ago.

Uses no energy, and if set right and cattle come by every 4 hours it won’t freeze up even at 20 below.

When not set right, or in my case also my cattle are out in a corn field and only come to the yard once a day, it will ice over, but just whack the ice crust with a hammer once a day and good to go.

Installed my first Cobett this year. So far so good. Considering the open pasture I have it in, breaking some ice off of it on the coldest mornings (so far) is not bad at all. Will be interesting to see how it handles the rest of the cold snap we are in right now.

That keeps a person at home ! Filling it every 3 days and keeping the home fires burning.

He is pretty quiet . I give him a head rubbing everyday. He sure font like strangers coming around then he gets snorting , must think gonna take his girls away.
