Cub magneto

Got a magneto that the points won't spark when I snap it over by hand. Opened the cover and coil is cracked. Someone put gasket goo on it to seal it. Could that be the reason it ain't sparking?

I cleaned points and set them.

Yes cracked coil can mean a bad coil and good chance it is shorted out. You can wire that mag up to work look a distributor type ignition by adding an external coil and battery. The Cub we pulled in today has a mag that I will have to check out

That's not a bad idea. My wife said she will order a carb for you and have it sent here. Then we will send it on to you. Also the linkage if you need it

The linkage needed is the rod on the left side going from the Gov. to the carb throttle. I may try to buy this cub form the guy. It has a belly mower but no hyds. It does how ever have a hand lift for the mower. It may depend on if I ever get my stemulis check. The boy got his and the wife got hers but I haven't gotten one as of yet

Thanks

I noticed the lift works pretty good and seems hard to lower the mower then it is to lift it. I bet a cub would make a pretty good hay raking tractor if the belly mower was removed. I'll need to do an ATF treatment to it plus a few other things but it has been sitting a while

Problem is the rotor is missing one tooth. Runs on a gear. Gotta buy one of those first. Always something......

Yes it is but I'll still give it an ATF treatment. The shiftier has a problem as in you can grab it and pull it out of the transmission so I'll have to figure that one out
