Another tractor?

A friend called last night. He was all angry and discouraged. Says he's going to sell all his old tractors except 3 'favorites'. Says he is tired of working on em. I understand that part! LOLHe has a McComickDeering O4 with a Kelly(I think) loader. He wants me to buy it. Asking 500.I,ve been agitateing since he bought to sell it to me.But,now I really dont need it. I nearly reached my 'saturation point'.I really cant afford it at this moment, but he will most likely 'carry' me for a bit.Should I buy it,or pass? Another good friend will buy it if I dont want it,So I wont be stuck with it.Going this morning to look,as I have never seen it.Thoughts?

If you buy it, do not sell it to your friend.
That would just likely create ill will between you and the seller.

If you do not want it, maybe steer the seller towards your friend?

All three of us are good friends. We frequently get together and 'tractor',so the seller wont care. Infact,he is already aware that the tractor might get passed on to the third guy.

Another thing is the seller is an older man,a big guy. He says"I cant even shoe horn my fat @$$ on to the seat!" LOL!

Tell the seller "Thank you, but I can no longer buy it. But I know someone who is interested and I'll have him call you. I didn't tell him what your asking price is."

As far as you buying it, your statement .... "I really cant afford it at this moment" .... tells me that you shouldn't buy it, especially if we're dealing with $500. How you deal with the rest of it, well that's up to you.

I didn't see much in the way of overhanging tree limbs or fruit trees at your ranch. I would set up the other friend with passage to the interesting tractor, with everybody in the loop. Jim

I understand your situation. When I was working, it wasn't a big deal. If I found a tractor I wanted and thought I could swing it, I bought it. Now that I'm retired, I have come to the conclusion that tho it is nice to have 6 Olivers, one Farmall and a White backhoe, I can't afford to keep them all. I sold a 550 last fall, come spring I will finish another 550 and sell it and then need to pick one or 2 more to sell so I can afford to play with the rest.

If you buy an antique tractor from someone you know, eventually they will want it back. That has happened to me several times.

If you can get it for $500 and there's truly "no strings attached" as to what you can do with it going forward how could you POSSIBLY go wrong at that price?
