2. How do I know if the cam shaft is timed right camshaft gear spins once to the crankshafts two rotations so its either right on or 180 off

"1. What cylinder is 1 and what is 2"

#1 is in front, nearest the radiator, like almost every other tractor.

"2. How do I know if the cam shaft is timed right camshaft gear spins once to the crankshafts two rotations so its either right on or 180 off"

No different than any other other 4-cycle engine.

Align the crank gear marks. (If you turn the crank one turn the marks will be 180 off, turn the crankshaft one more turn and they again will line up. NOTHING to worry about.)

There's any number of places to buy a generic shop manual on the 'net, you must not have looked real hard, this very site has them, or look on ebay for an original DEERE manual (SM2001 and SM 2002, the MT supplement) (the best there is) or buy them direct from DEERE Techpubs by calling 1-800-522-7448.

Hello Kyle welcome to YT! It seems you have drawn a reply from a member of the YT community that is fairly
direct with his replies. Nothing against him or others that choose this style, everyone has their own personality.
I hopefully tend to be a little more tender to those that are just joining. I don’t know if you have read on these
forums prior to joining to post but a reoccurring theme here is to suggest you have a manual to lead you
through repairs. The wise repairman would have some type of reference material on hand proceeding the type
of repair you are attempting. If you are fairly young a lot of people expect to find this type of information readily
available on the internet, many times that is not the case. So spending somewhere in the $15 to $30 range can
get you a manual. I will attach a link to the MT I&T manual for sale by YT for $30. Best of luck with your project!

The oil pump has to be timed on these vertical Deere engines. There is a special tool from Deere to do that with.
If the pump is not timed first you will not get it to run on both cylinders. Gene Davis Tennille, Ga.
