Disconnect Battery

This is a first for me. Was on a 737 plane this morning, and the navigation system had an error. The maintenance turned off the whole plane, disconnected the batteries and rebooted all the computers.

Aren't the 737s the ones they had all the problems with and were grounded til recently? Not trying to scare you, but .... it'd freak me out. I'm glad all went well. Mark.

just saw on the news last night they were bragging this plane is completely safe with a new soft ware package! yikes watch out.

Okay, so what happens when you need to reboot the computers when you are in the air?

I have seen a few strange things in my time traveling. A cockpit window held in place with duct tape. A mechanic filing on the compressor blades on the plane. A fuel handler rolling up a gantry, climbing up on the wing of the plane and "topped it off". The pilot coming on the PA and saying there will be a slight delay because there was too much freight and not enough fuel for our flight. So they off loaded some freight and loaded more fuel. The entire plane applauded the pilot for that. All of these were on plane that I was either on or waiting to board.

Doesn't instill confidence in fly sometimes.

like Butch said to Sundance (or maybe the other way around) can't swim? hell the fall will probably kill you.

One place I flew out of you were only allowed x pounds of baggage. Any thing over had to go into the dumpster, no exceptions. Short runway.

Correct, there are over 22 versions of 737 built over 40 years.

And the max problem was more related to stripped down export models and lack of pilot training

First week of March three years ago we took a 737 to Florida, my first time in a big plane. On the way home we landed at Midway airport in Chicago after dark and the pilot was circling which seemed like forever and I was looking out the window trying to spot a runway and all I could see looked like street light grids every where. He finally dropped that plane like the bottom fell out of it, landed hard on one side and then laid on the brakes for what seemed like way too long, people were screaming and I was thinking we were going to run out of runway any second.

But they say any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. I was glad to find the car in the parking lot and go home.

Had that happen to me last spring on a trip to Hawaii. Pulled away from terminal, announced they had a problem, and pulled back in. After a half hour waiting on maintenance, said they were going to shut down and reboot all the computers. Did that and started to pull out and announced they were still having problems. Did another shut down and reboot. Then they announced everything was working and off we went. Not exactly the most comforting flight from Dallas to LA but we made it. Pilot said something about the hydraulic controls.

Well, that is one thing I don't worry about.
Have not been on a plane since about 1980.
I don't fly and will never get on a cruise ship either.
My 4 old tractors are as high as I will get off the ground on anything with an engine in it.
Plus, I go by the old saying, "LO, I am with you always".
It don't say anything about "High up".
Don't get on anything with an engine that if the engine quits, you can't get out and work on it.
Richard in NW SC where if I fall, I don't have far to go.

Was on an Airbus A319 a few years ago, same thing, Pilot came on the speaker and said that only one of the 3 computers that control the plane were working and regulations require two of the three to be operational before take off. Maintenance Engineer recommends doing a REBOOT of all three computers and the only way to REBOOT is to shutdown all power and disconnect the standby power from the gate for two minutes and everything will go black as this was at night. The REBOOT was preformed and all three computers came back online and I had a safe trip.

Yeah, it was an Airbus A319 that I was on. Not sure which is worse, something made in Europe or something made in Seattle?

Earlier this week my neices husband was test flying a 737 Max. My sister said he has nerves of steel and is fearless. He normally works in an office giving advice to pilots who call in with a problem.
