Indian 1901. I can hardly ride my H/D in heavy gravel. Couldn’t image trying it in plowed soil.

Quite a few of the early tractors were three wheeled.

Three wheeled vehicles are classified as motorcycles by the DMV.

Therefore, yes, some farmers did buy a motorcycle as a tractor.

I had a neighbor who was known for his tall tails claim when he was a kid his neighbor pulled a grain elevator down the road behind his Harley. This neighbor of mine was born in the late 20's. I question whether a Harley from that era had enough oomph to get a grain elevator rolling unless the elevator was real small. Most likely the elevator was on steel then too so the whole deal is questionable.

My dad bought me a new Honda Trail 90 when I 'graduated' 8th grade. He decided he would ride it also....within a year the horse was gone. He said it was a lot easier to get on that thing to go after the cows than to saddle up a horse. We got pretty good and rounding up the cattle with it, later on I got a Honda XL250 and that was a step up. Motorcycles never need to rest and can easily outrun a cow.
