Ford 201 injector pump timing

Got a basket case motor at auction. Rotary injector pump has no marks under the side cover for timing purposes. Ford shop manual says timing can only be changed internally by pump tech; and if the pump is removed to mark the position so the pump can be replaced in the same position. They make no mention of degrees BTDC. The pump was off when I got the motor, so how do I properly time it now? Thanks, Fritz

Just MAKE SURE the pump drive gear is installed correctly. CAV DPA pumps on Ford applications DO NOT use internal letter mark like older Perkins applications, and their later pumps don't use the internal letter either. Use the pump flange scribe mark and align it with the timing case O mark. The pump CAN NOT be assembled wrong internally either like Stanadyne/Roosa pumps can. Long as engine gear marks are correct, pump will be in range of needed adjustment at mounting studs.

Set the pump to 0.
