That is a very nice looking D-17 for its age!
With all the trouble they went to, they should have put a front mounted pump on it and had true live hydraulics. Although the high volume pump is an improvement, the pulley shaft stops when the foot clutch is depressed. However, the Power Director hand clutch does allow for stopping the tractor without stopping the pulley shaft.

Agree,I had a 1958 with front mounted pump and Quick -Attach loader, but didn't ,have the oversize front wheels . Used it for plowing, corn planting ,cultivating, baleing ,silage blowing ,on AC and Ford mounted corn pickers. Took the pto drive gear out running a Howard Rotavator. Made in WI.
