The John Deere AR that my uncles owned for years was showing a lot of rust damage from the leaky valve stem allowing calcium chloride to seep out. I finally went
to work on it a few years back (2013?) and cleaned up the rust. Drained as much of the chloride as I could and then repainted it. I'd never got around to
uploading this video to youtube so thought it was about time. It turned out well. Rim only had light rust with some pitting. Now I need to get that tractor
started again after several years in the back of the shed.

That's been my experience the rust always comes back, but it look like you got a good handle on fighting it ! There was one guy that had some Galvanising stuff in a spray can, unless that will stop it. He said it dry's almost instantly, any way, faster than paint!

There's a recall on Rust-Oleum galvanizing spray. Apparently the bottom blows out of the can:

Rusty if you want the rust removal job to last you need to use a phosphoric acid rust converter. Sand blasting is good but you can't count on it getting the rust down in the bottom of the pits. I hate it when paint bubbles out of pits after just two years.

The exterior looks good. You said you drained most of the calcium. Did you follow up by removing the tire to drain the rest, or replace the tube, then clean/paint the inside as you did the exterior? If you didn't, there may well still be damage inside that will show its head in time.

I should have mentioned in the video that I did use a product called "Naval Jelly" to treat the rust. It is some type of acid like you said. Its been 7 years now since I did that job and it still looks pretty good.
Jim M.E.. I never removed the tire or tube so just hope its ok on the inside.
Ultradog MN I have heard of needle scalers but have no idea what they were or how they worked. Or if I would have much use for one.

That would be a quick way to get a silver shoe and pant leg.

The needle scaler works really well on cast areas as it leaves the surface rough like original. When there is two or three coats of paint to contend with on cast one more coat won't look very good. Sandblasting has its place but not on the body of the tractor, just asking for trouble.
