Roll over plows

Does a roll over plow take more horse power than a normal mold board plow. Could a front wheel assist 70 horse tractor handle a 3 bottom roll over plow?

I have used a JD 4 bottom roll over on a 4320 in sod which it handled nicely ..but its pretty heavy you have to have the front end weighted down. So i dont think youll have too much trouble but itll be pretty goodload.

There is a guy that comes to the show in Rantoul Il. with, I think a 4010 John Deere, with a 3 bottom rollover and it seems to do good with it. That ground plows hard, I know from experience. I used to know a guy who had a 4 18 rollover on a 4320 John Deere. It pulled it fine, just all it wanted to lift.

It takes more power because of the weight, you are pulling two plows, one is just upside down.

Rollovers are heavy. The only reason they pull 'hard' is you usually plow deeper, the ground is packed more,or tighter than nonirrigated ground. Often times sticker than nonirrigated ground. But 70 horse should have no problems with 3 bottoms . I used to pull 3x14 with a 70 horse 706.I've also plowed a fair amount with a 560 and 730 pulling the same plow. Back 'in the day',guys used to pull 3 bottoms with IH 560;JD 730;Case 830;Ford 5000...All 60 horse tractors.

A lot depends on your conditions I suppose. I can only plow with a 2 bottom rollover with my 65 hp 656 due to the hills and soil conditions. I used to use a 3 bottom 14" regular plow with it though. I much prefer the two bottom 16" rollover I have now though as you can roll everything uphill.
