Good solid old tractors. They pull like a mule.
Not as handy as an M farmall, but nothing wrong with them. Parts are available.Go for it.

'Minnies" are cool tractors. Not common, part of their appeal.someday I hope to have a Minnie in my collection. Currently looking at an R.

As mentioned, they're practically bulletproof. The hand clutch can tend to be a little jerky at times. I think there may be a way to fix that. Mine are just collector toys so I haven't looked into that, since they don't get used that much.
I'd go for it if I were you. Good luck, and show us a picture when you get it.

I agree with Steve. I spent many hours on one. They are reliable and solid. Make sure the seat to rear drive casting connection is solid and
unworn. They can be a single point failure that results in falling off the back. (Personal experience in road gear with nothing attached behind.)

i have 3 1953 standard models. slightly stronger than the farmall M. easier to get on and off, hand clutch and easy to shift. easier steering
than the farmall.very easy starting. they are a tough old tractor.

have owned this one for about 5 years, both are in original condition and paint. they are my favorite minnie.

Thanks for all the replies I appreciate it Im going to go look at it tomorrow afternoon what do you think a good price would be he says runs and shifts great with new tires on back

As stated more power than a M and will run close to a Super M. Generally reliable and most likely MM's best tractor. If you like high platform tractors like the Farmall
M you may not like the low rider aspect of a U. I don't like the PTO so close to the tractor operator on a U. Far more reliant on used parts than a Farmall M.

Just a note, make sure the manifold is solid, there not available like from suppliers at any price, nobody is makeing them, just tap on it,to see if its got a good sound to it, or does if sound mushy! The U and G Moline take the same manifold !!

You didn't mention what the asking price was, there would certainly be a LOT of expertise here to help you with that (not from me though). Obviously, that is a big factor on whether or not you want to close the deal. Generally speaking, if you have been following pricing posts on the YT site over the last while, older tractor prices aren't what they were a few years back. Check out JAK's post here with a picture, to me that looks like a good deal for whoever bought it, not sure how yours compares.

he could ask any price , buy depends what he accepts. yes its high. but your not telling us its condition either. for all we know it might
have a 3k paint job.

We never had any MM in our neighbor. But but from what I heard they have a very good reputation. Lot of puller guys run them and they run strong.

Thanks I know tires are pricey Ill see how it runs nobody in our neighborhood has any that I know of thanks for all the replies much appreciated

My snowplowing tractor is a late '47 UTU.

The good: Starts easily below 0 degF (mine's still 6 volts). Lugs like an ox. Good brakes. VERY fast road gear. Live hydraulics work well - though reservoir capacity is marginal. Easy to climb on/off and to drive while standing. On the infrequent occasion it needs repair, parts are still readily available. And it just looks (and sounds) cool!

The not so good: Steering when going slow can be an armful - especially with the front plow fitted. OEM hand throttle is awkward (extending the handle to match the clutch handle fixes this). Seat position is somewhat awkward.

Bottom line is I love my UTU - would purchase again given the opportunity!

That's because they can put G jugs on a U block, so you end up with much bigger pistons, and the crank in interchangable to if i remember right!!

My next door neighbor had one in the fifties when I was a kid but I was too young to know much about it. It was a solid looking tractors compared to the two banger Deeres we had. He traded it for a Deere 730 gas in 1959.

My father in law had a UB they used for chores. It was as abused about as hard as any tractor could be abused but it always started and ran. They lugged it down on the feed grinder every day then put it on the feed wagon and spun through the muddy cattle yard. It was rode hard and put up wet 365 days a year. The lights were smashed and I don't think any of the gauges worked. No muffler, just a pipe short enough so they couldn't snag it on something hanging low. Now that I think bout it I do remember one time something came loose in the rear end and wedged under a bull gear breaking the bottom of the rear end casting. They laid the tractor on it's side and welded it up, fixed whatever was wrong in the rear end and put it back to work. I can still hear that thing lugging away on the grinder grinding ear corn.

It did fail them one time when I was over there. The kids were dragging it around the yard to get it started but it refused them. I pulled the gas cap and looked into an empty tank. LOL

Yes,they do run strong...My 1947 model U MM winning the 5500 5 MPH class at abundant,MO in 2020..

Well I guess I havent driven many tractors Im simply just asking opinions on the mm u not sure what you mean by not driving many tractors 🤔

Unhandy is a WD45 with a wide front end long geared from what I remember of dad talking about one and the diesel version the local dealer brought out a hundred years ago when it came to maneuvering compared to our MD or H. It had a german diesel in it if I remember right.

Just climbing on and off one I hate ! I pick the w6 any day over the m. I figured out that’s why they don’t have fenders on most of them down there. Even the 560 Farmall is something else to get on and off. The 560 international is WAY more handier.

I looked at the mm u tonight it has brand new tires straight tin still 6 volt system it needs a new generator so I may pull the trigger and buy it thanks again for all the info
