Allis CA won't start

The starter did not seam to want to engage. So I took it off to look at it closer. The brushes look to be worn but still make good contact with the armature. But the button I guess you would call it that sticks out of the housing for the start switch to contact has been filed or just worn down a lot. Is that a part that can be replaced? And were would I get one? I think the starter Delco number is 1107096. Thanks, Cedric

Easy fix that is free!!! Take the saddle switch off (it may be off now) and use a chain saw file (small round) to elongate the holes where it mounts so it moves about 1/8" farther toward the contact. Use washers on the screws to reinforce the slightly more fl0exible mount flange. Put it back together and make it go. Jim

Here is a stud kit on eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Delco-Star...5-B-C-G-1107017-1107951-1107043-/201745656796 . You could check with the YT Store and see if they have a kit. A shop that rebuilds starter would be another place to check for a stud kit. A heavy duty soldering iron is required as the gap in the threaded end of the stud is where the field coil leads solder into it after it is installed in the housing. You might want to consider just having a shop rebuild it for you. Sometimes you can move the switch housing a bit and get a better contact for a while. Replacing the switch may buy some time as the contact inside it will be new. Like everything the quality of a new one is a crap shoot, I'd go for a Standard or Echlin if replacing it (which you should do anyway if you replace the stud).
