shooting some cheap 44s

I haven't purchased a factory center fire round for probably 30 years but I do watch prices, wow! Decided to load some 44 mags today and run them through the Marlin 1894. Price sticker on the 1000 primer box is $11.50. Price sticker on the 8 Lb can of 2400 is $75.50 bullets were cast by me. Guess how long those componants have been around here??? LOL. Didn't cost me much to shoot 50 rounds.

I always enjoyed shooting my 44 mag with reduced power reloads. I would get some hard cast bullets from a guy at the gun show and reload with Unique for about 900 Ft/Sec. Way cheaper then the factory ammo for the 44 mag. For the 45 ACP I could buy reloads cheaper then I could reload. I think the 44 Mag and the 45 colt are some of the easiest rounds to reload.

I'm still using some powder, primers, jacketed bullets and brass that date from the late 1970'searly 1980's. Used my last can of Red Dot a couple years back, had a price tag of $9.00 and change IIRC. I have Sierra 22 cal bullets at $3.00 and change per hundred. Those days are long gone.

454 is fairly easy to load but I found I needed the special crimping die to hold the bullet in the case during recoil. I shoot a lot of 45 Colt in my 454 those full bore 454s are punishing even with gloves and a wrist support. I am looking for a load that exceeds the 45 Colt but is below the full load 454. Cannot get small rifle primers anyway.

Haven't reloaded in a good while. Need to set my equipment up again. My favorite .44 mag load was 21.6 grains of 2400 with a 240 grain FMJ. I have run about a million of them through my Ruger Redhawk that I bought in 1983. Still runs like the day I bought it. Love .44 Magnum.
