That is what i have been wondering lately i have noticed when i get out of my vehicle at the grocery store or any place young people go by me as if they are needing to use the restroom some of them even say can i help you Sir and wait and open the door for me as i go down the aisle the clerks ask Sir do you need help i realize they don't know my name even my daughters (4)get mad at me for getting on a ladder or going in the woods with a chainsaw by myself and my youngest granddaughter (16) has threatend me if i don't listen i just don't understand i will be 78 in a month or so danggit they treat me like an old man.

Be thankful you have people to care for you,and help you when needed.I am sure you would much rather have people that care enough to do so,then folks that walk by and laugh or see you fall to the ground, and completely ignore you. These days it is hard to find people that care enough to help.

I have a few of my own personal believes. One of them is that other people see us more clearly than we see ourselves. If your closest family members are concerned for your safety, then you need to listen to them or at least ask them why they feel that way. Maybe you see yourself the way you were and not as you are.

Hum ? I'm only 57 and have been noticing that sort of stuff ? People letting me in front of them in line at the check out , I got my mask on so they can't see me scowl ? a few years back I was loading a set of mower ramps into my little car and a nice looking gal asked if I needed any help ? So now am I missing clues as to being hit on by these ladies ? or are people just getting nicer ?

You have some years on me but I am starting to hear things from my kids like - you shouldn't be doing that any more....Hard to accept but will only get worse I am afraid

I had a girl at checkout. Ask me for my id as I was getting beer for my son. Then she told me she was sorry for asking. I told her don't be. It made me feel good and you were just doing your job. I always look for her at the store.

The good people that you are noticing are everywhere. They rarely or never make the headlines.

I'm baffled too.. Most of the time all I hear these days is how selfish and self centered everyone else is. Yet every day someone asks if they can help.
I sort of like the young ladies calling me "honey" and opening doors for me... at least they aren't calling me a male chauvinist pig and slamming the door in my face.

I look old for my age. Always have. Got it from my Dad. He was 72 when he died but looked like he was 100. My wife on the other hand looks young for her age. I'm 67 and I haven't been carded for 40 yrs. My wife was carded up until she was 50. I have had people mistake my wife as being my daughter. Now that feels like a kick in the teeth.

I don't drink or smoke but you have to be 18 to buy spray paint. Bought a can at TSC and the old woman at the checkout asked for my ID I said I want to kiss you! She blushed and said what in the world for??? I said nobody has thought I was less than 18 for 50 years,LOL

For the first couple of weeks after I had the knee surgeries I was pushing a walker around in the stores and parking lots. I was surprised at how many people offered to open the door for me. I joked to Marilyn I need to push a walker more often so people will open the door for me. LOL

last time we ate out close two years now the waitress said you get the senior discount, wife started laugh so hard about peed her pants, waitress felt bad said no need i take the cheaper bill!!! now trying to get on ss

They are doing it to me and I'm only 65. I had to change a tire in a Walmart parking lot and three different people stopped to do it for me. Might be because it was a Dodge and they knew it would be H.

I was ringing the bell for the SA the other afternoon and it was so windy that it blew the stand and kettle over--two young gals ran over and helped set it back up and about fought me to put a bag of softener salt on the base so it wouldn't tip over again--WOW--I thought they should help old people--whoops--they did!!---Tee

Last years pic--NO mask and the weather was a lot better---

I am like a poster below Butch[oh]. I bought 2 cans of spray paint at TSC and the check out person made me show him my drivers license. I had other stuff and the wife was with me with stuff she needed so I showed him my ID. I asked him if he thought I was old enough to buy paint. He said you never know. I am 82 years old. I told him the line behind me go faster if he didn't ask stupid questions. He just looked at me. My rant is over.

I'd much prefer that than to be treated as if I'm invisible. That happens mostly with twenty something males.

I had a cart loaded with several 50-pound bags of black-oil sunflower seeds the other day, and the checkout woman asked if I would like help loading it into my truck. I said no, I can manage OK, which I always do. So...

Now...

... I have a sore back muscle that just won't go away until I'm up and around for a few hours every morning. I guess that's why bird seed comes in smaller bags for those old and feeble and wise enough to pay a few cents a pound more for the convenience.

I posted that for a little humor i am BLESSED with four daughters that live close and help look after their Mother she has dementia six grandsons three granddaughters and three son-in-laws that help out not complaining at all just happy to be above ground.

I think your the one that asked the stupid question. Don't condemn the point of sales person. He or she is only doing what they are required to do. If you need to lash out at someone write a letter to the corporate office. The cashier does not set policy.

As we're all getting older, sure, we can still do most of the things we did when we were younger, but it often now comes with a bit more wear & tear. As a pride factor, people generally are reluctant to ask for help, even in the darkest of times. What I've learned, and reinforced with my parents is that, don't be afraid to ask for help, or when offered.......take it. It's a win-win situation.

1) You get something done that is harder on you today than it was 20 years ago, and.....the bigger thing.....

2) The other person gets a feel-good for helping someone out.

We've all helped the older generation here and there, and we feel good about it. Let the younger generation enjoy that feeling.

About 3 years ago, Wife and I flew to Harrisberg Pa to visit a former
Czech exchange student working there. This was about 6 mos. before I had my knee replaced,
so I carried a cane most places we went, not knowing how far we might have to walk.
It was nice at the airport, we got to get on first!!
Frequently, I was asked if I needed assistance. After I told
them I was doing OK, I made sure to to thank them for asking.
I know they were doing thier job, but I wanted to let them know
I appreciated their asking.

I have figured out in the last 6 months that I don't need to buy concrete mix in 80 or 90 lb bags anymore. The 60's are almost to big.

Correct. They can't just fake a birthdate anymore just because the person buying looks old enough.

Before stores started this policy, they used to punch in 11/11/11 when someone looked old enough. Too easy to sneak in a few underage friends. Now the birthdates have to be sufficiently "random" and "realistic" throughout a cashier's shift in order for them to keep their job.

Tell the truth now, you sure you weren't just leaning on it and it tipped over? LOL Good for you donating your time and effort.

One day at Home Depot, I bought some 40 pound bags of salt for the water softner. The cashier asked me if I needed help with them. I asked her, "Do I look that bad ?"

We were chatting with another couple at an event. He said wait until you’re over 60 then you’ll know what in talking about. We were both over 60. Go figure.

The difference between being young or old. When your young and fall down, everybody laughs. When your old and fall down, everybody rushes to help ! (That's how we know we're getting old)

My daughter is 37, my wife is 58, I am 64. A person once thought my daughter was my wife and wife was daughter. Think about that one for a bit LOL.

The handy-cap parking places are to the north of where I was ringing and when it gets near dark they get emptied out and the wind really whistles through there then. I like to stand outside but in rained two nights and was inside of the entryway--You would be surprised how much more people give when I am outside--Maybe it is because I sing more Christmas tunes when I am outside????? Thanks Mel---Tee

I brought a pallet of 80# bags of Quick mix last summer at Home Depot. The fork truck driver asked who was going to unload them as I looked kind of old to be doing so. I told him I was and thought to my self as I looked at him being 30 years younger but about 50 lbs over weight and probably less likely then me to be able to unload them.

I may be allot older but probably allot wiser and slid the bags into the FEL bucket and slide them into the mixer without lifting them. But I didn't tell him that.

I’m 71, about 5 years ago I went in the local grocery store for a 6 pack of beer. The young cashier said Do you have an ID. I said no but I’ve got a bald head and a white mustache! Everyone in line behind me laughed, the cashier said I’m supposed to ask everybody! I thought to myself ya but you could use a little desecration!

That begs the question. What planet are you living on?

Guess I'd rather be carded than told I qualify for the senior discount which someone did the other day when I walked in. I rarely ask for the senior discount even though I'm way past 55.
