A friend took the rear bumper off of his 2002 Dodge Dakota 4 door pickup to put a new one on. Pickup had gotten rear ended damaging the bumper. After the bumper was taken off and laid to the side you can see a bar or tube that goes from the left side to the right side. I believe it is mounted on rubber bushing on each end. It does not attach to the frame. This is inside the bumper. When the bumper comes off this piece comes off. He is trying to figure out what the cross piece is for and if he needs to install it in the new bumper. Can't figure it out myself unless it has something to do with either rear end crashes or flex of the rear frame. Thanks and Merry Christmas.
