Honey do list

I am doing things for my bride of 30 years this Christmas.

Rebuilding the fireplace was on the list, bottom and log holder where shot. Here is a picture of the completed assembly. I had to cut the base to fit, and added 1 1/4 inches to the legs on the log holder I bought.

Got a new bedroom fan up today.

Putting in a new kitchen faucet for her Monday, that worries me the most, I do not do plumbing well.

Here is picture of fireplace curing with new log holder in it, gonna build a small wood fire tomorrow night.

I have a question on adhesives.

I would like to glue a piece of steel down in the back of the grate with holes that the grate would set in. This would hold the grate from moving, but allow it to be lifted out for easy cleaning. JD Weld extreme heat is good to 2400 degrees, do you think the temperature would exceed this inside the fireplace?

I think the temperature would be within tolerance (just barely).

But the soft surface of the brick and the difference in expansion rate between the steel and the brick, I don't see it holding for long.

Nice job on the brick!

I remember when I was in my "20's" and doing a lot of repair work for folks, I would never touch "plumbing" on a Sunday......because all the stores were closed.

Did you reline all of it or just the floor?
Did you use the precast panels as well?

Looks like the back corners might let you use a strip of bar stock to end behind the side panels and then be welded to the grate.
You could likely lift one side to get the grate in and out.

think you'd be ok. If the temp got high enough to make the steel glow red you'd be at about 1400.
