Old dairy production numbers

In digging through the piles of paper my family has kept a few were found from the dairy years. I chose two of them to post here

Mom's father had a few cows milk into the mid-20K range during the 1960's. He was a very early user of AI. I think that my aunt still has the county news letter from back then with grandpa's story in it. I recall seeing it around a decade ago.

They were always proud of their cows. When they got out I was told it took one phone call and a local university was there the in a couple of days to pick them up. The registration transfer papers for the cows was dated Jan 2 1961.

You are a Cornell grad... did you have Ed LaDUe? He used to talk about how he and his dad had a 13k herd average, but in that day, it was the best in their county.

Very true and it was not my intent to slight the OP. It just jogged my memory as to my grandfather.

Eddy was my adviser. I don't recall the herd average story but he did talk quite a bit about growing up on the farm outside of Canandaigua, NY which is not all that far away from me. A stern but fair man. Eddy's secretary had the unique ability to know when I arrived back on campus to come in and discuss things with Eddy that he felt needed attention. She would call the student residence usually a couple hours after I got back from home. Eddy's reputation as an ag economist got him access to a number of people that he brought in to address the class. This included Barber Conable a politician from Alexander, NY in the western part of NY. I googled Eddy within the last month and he is still around and lives outside of Ithaca.

While I mentioned AI the regional co-op Eastern had a facility just outside of Ithaca where they kept a number of bulls for their program. Never toured it but has been said to be interesting.

A side note as to Eddy. An in-law to Eddy is the Frankish family to the south of Canandaigua. Their family were John Deere dealers in Rushville from around the mid-1920's to the mid-1940's. At one time they had two D's tandemed together. The last I knew they had a 4010 diesel that they got from Turnbull's who were JD dealers in Hall, NY during the 1940's through late 1960's. They brought it to the Steam Pageant grounds for a few shows just a few years ago.
