Auction Find

Went to an auction last weekend and picked this up. I have never worked on a vertical 2-cylinder but the price was cheap enough so it followed me home. Auctioneer said it was stuck but for some reason, I couldn't believe that so I bought it anyway. When I got it home, I found the brakes were locked. People had put it in gear and tried to rock it. I washed it as it must have sat in a shed or barn and was covered in stuff. Looks like it has most of the original paint left on it. I cleaned the fuel system, put fresh fuel in it, and a good 6 volt battery and it started right up and ran great. Came with a John Deere M 20 sickle bar mower that was missing the cutting bar but I think I can find one of them. Everything seems to work but it sure has a bunch of levers. I am going to order a manual but thought I would wait till after the Christmas rush.

(quoted from post at 19:09:27 12/22/20) Stop the suspense, what is it you bought?

Well, unless it's been farmerized unto something else, a DEERE M20 mower is a "mid/side mount" and fits fits M, MT and 40 series John Deere tractors, and he DID mention working with a vertical 2-cylinder engine!

That should narrow it down a bit.

A good chance that sickle bar knife is the same as what was used in other JD mowers of the time like the # 5. I needed one for my mower on my LA but it was 5 feet. TSC stocked a 7 foot one for the # 5 so I got that and cut it down and just reriveted the end knife on.

I assume as someone else did, you have a Deere M or something similar.
Does it have a belly mower????
I have a Deere M and and a belly mower. The mower is a
basket case.....as in all disassembled. There is a pile of
iron (parts) and a bucket full of small parts.
No Idea where to start!!
Could you share some pictures??
Or if you find a book for the mower,
could you please let me know where you found it??
Or anyone else who may know what to do.
Thank you, Jon

I have a m20 mower I can tell you the complete bar from the pivot point out is the same as the rear mounted #5 mower. I bought a #5 just for the whole bar. Mine is completely assembled but removed from the tractor if you need pictures. My email should be open
