I checked the transmission oil on the new to me Oliver1550 and it was a little low, so I tried to take the plug out to add some. Couldn’t budge it, so I slid a pipe over it and pulled. Bang!!!!! I’ve never broke a wrench like this before!!! I think I’ll try to weld it back together.

Super, You don't need to take that plug out. There is a dipstick on top where you check and add oil. Sorry about the wrench.

Hello FastFarmall,

Yep, I got a set. 1/2 square and 12 points it pretty close the same size. Sometime a 12 point will work.

Guido.

I broke the box end on an 18mm Mac wrench, trying to break loose the lower strut bolts on my granddaughters VW bug. Ended up buying an impact socket and using a breaker bar with a cheater. Now my metric end wrenches don't all match. Lucky for her, she's a sweet young lady!!!

You may have expected too much from that open end.
4 and 8 point sockets are your best friends in these situations.

My old neighbor used to weld my dad's tools with this. Never broke in that spot again.
Dad was tough on tools. Did not own all the tools we have today and made do with what he had.

I bent the heck out of a craftsmen on time. Brought it in and they gave me a new one. I had broke a Snap-on socket one day. I showed it to the man and he replaced it with a new one. He thought it was really neat looking because the socket was made back in the 1950's. Yelp they might coast to buy but for some strange reason they are worth the money.

Any time I run across a bolt or nut that won't turn, I'll try an impact tool (gently, at first) if there is room. If no room, I'll use a socket on a breaker bar with taps from a hammer - again, if there's room.

I've only broken 2 wrenches in my life. But then, I don't wrench nearly as much as most of you do.

The hydraulic has a dipstick but I haven’t found one for the
transmission/rear end. This is where you check oil level for
the transmission/rear end.

That change was from a service bulletin. Originally just a pipe plug. It was to raise the fluid capacity to ten gallons. I added it to mine per J. Schweibert's suggestion.

Hello svcimmins,

☺️ I have the right tools sets for square plugs and the recessed square plugs too!

Replacing engine blocks they are a must.....

Guido.

I broke a 15/16 Wright like that several years ago. Just pushed hard with my foot.I 'veed' it good and welded it. Used 6011 for a root pass, let it cool some. Then used 7018.Did plenty of chipping between passes. Built it up ,then ground it back smooth. Several years later,I am still useing it. Weld it.

You must not have gotten injured when the wrench broke. For safety I would spend the $5 or even $10 to replace with a different wrench and maybe keep the repaired one as a backup or sentiment.

open end and extension never work out from my time turning wrenches, just be glad you did not go over backwards on something when it broke, good luck
