The people offering free shipping have done their homework and know how much it actually costs to ship the item, and therefor how much they need to charge. There are many ways to ship most items, and some are wayyy cheaper than others. The person charging $188 to ship a tire probably used some generic shipping estimator to get that number and never actually inquired with all the different shipping companies. Tires can be shipped fairly cheaply.

Most of these sellers are just middlemen, affiliates. They don't have a warehouse full of goods. Everything they sell is "drop shipped" from distribution centers located all around the country.

So, shipping is generally not very expensive because the product doesn't have to travel very far.

An average shipping cost is worked into the price of the product.

Brick n mortar stores have higher overhead. Powersellers get better shipping rates and move more products.

Your first example is one of the highest priced places to buy anything,so it stands to reason their shipping would be too. They are a great place for lazy folks that don't want to look around to buy things though.

Additionally, most of the ones that charge outrageous shipping are operating the same as the free shippers, and in some cases may in fact be one in the same.

Those products with the outrageous shipping are "fishing expeditions," looking for people who impulse buy without comparison shopping.

When shoppers don't do their homework, CHA-CHING! Fools and their money are soon parted.

A lot of the free shipping comes from China. The Post Office is in a trade agreement where they absorb the cost of shipping that comes from China. The Post Office is losing money because of this which means that taxes pay for the free shipping.

My Oliver 1900 has 7.50x18 tires on the front and I wanted bigger tires so on E-bay Tire Town out in Kan. had 2 10x16 3 rib tires for $200 with free shipping--Took a chance and one was delivered last Sun. morning and the other one came the next day. The brand was buffed off but they look good enough for a toy! Son thinks the rest of the writing makes it look like it might be a Good Year??? --Good Luck---Tee

Volume shippers get some decent rates.

I priced a hub bearing for the PU,the best price was $172.00 pu at the store. I have two being delivered to the house tomorrow for $178.00 and $40.00 of that is shipping. It costs money to ship something from the factory,to a warehouse,to the parts house warehouse, to their regional warehouse and then to a store front. I am sure my stuff is coming straight from the first warehouse.

well more then likely the ones charging for shipping are just adding more icing to the cake and the ones selling and shipping for the same money are still making good profit just not gouging . same tire from where i get my tires from would sell the same tire for HALF that price , BUT you will just have to get off your donkey and drive down and get them . Been dealing with the same guy now going on forty years . I was in need of four tires really bad and after calling EVERYBODY that i knew looking and NONE of them had what i needed i stumbled across this guys phone number not listed in the YELLOW pages but the white pages . It was just before Christmas snowing like all get out nd my plow truck was in need of some new hides . The prices i was getting from the ones that did not have them in stock were running between 130 to 160 a tire and this guy told me that he had my size and ply rating in stock and could do me for 70 bucks a tire mounted and balanced where the OTHER guys added in between 7.50 to 10 a tire . Jimmy told me if i could get down there by 5 he would stay late to get me fixed up . Well i went down in a snow storm slippen and sliden and i get there and he had five different tires lined up for me to pick from and the one set was radials for five bucks more per tire . At the time i was not radial friendly after the tire on the 75 Cougar . He said how about you just try them and if you don't like them i will pull them back off and put cord tires back on and refund the difference . BUT i know you will love them . Jimmy's place was a RAT HOLE and old run down ex gas station with two bays two beat up tire machines and two old balancers with vary little room to even walk five old semi trailers FULL of every size and brand tire two old beat up pick ups with home made thrower rack beds and four floor jacks and two air wrenches and four employees. I got there like five min. before five in a snow storm spent five min. deciding on the tires made my pick and went radials and pulled my truck up to the doors and before i could walk into the old dirty office and stand next to a space heater they had all four off the truck and old tires off the rims and the new ones going on and by 20 after five i was writing the check and heading out the door to the truck as they were putting the last tire on. I gave 75 a tire for Copper 12.5 x 33x16.5 ten ply mounted balanced and out the door . Lost touch with him for two years when i did not need to buy tires and he had moved and i had no idea where . I ran into him one evening at home Depot and asked if he had gotten out of the business and he said ah no i just moved , a little feather down the road to a bigger rat hole but now he can get you inside not outside like he did before . I needed tires for the wifes Durango and was about to pull the trigger and give Sam Walton more money to the tune of just shy of 210 a tire and i called Jimmy and like always Jimmy said bring it down and this time for the same tire as what i WAS going to buy from SAM'S club Jimmy mounted and balanced out the door for 90 bucks a tire . Last set of Ag tires i bought were the 18.4x34 FIRESTONE RADIALS lets see you beat his 790 bucks mounted and loaded with new tubes on the FARM as he can now do on farm .l Nothing fancy here old beat up one ton a Johnny Cash air compressor a Harbor Freight air wrenches a used hyd. bead buster and a hand full of rebuilt jacks and a new Cal pump . Really steppen up here . Back when everyone around here that was into pulling old tractors and the new rules allowed the 16.9x38 you could not find a set and if you did some places were getting 650 a tire . Called Jimmy and asked and he said you can't find them BUT give me a couple days i was about ready to call him when he called me and said i have your tires and when i asked how many green stamp books i need to bring he said 269 per tire including new tubes. He showed me his invoice and he made 40 bucks on the deal and he did not have to go after them as they came in with a semi load of tires . so he had a phone call and had to move the tires around a little invested in that sale . One must shop around before one pulls the trigger . Just because it is online does not mean it is a good deal.

Have good friend that has parts store. I can buy same item from e-bay etc cheaper than his cost and shipped free. I don't know how they do it unless they are cutting middle man out. ???

A person has to be pretty desperate to buy from millertire.
There prices are average at best and the shipping is always on the high side.

But they do have some tires you can't find anywhere else in North America.

I believe that . Look at the prices they are identical you are telling me that one company can sell for the same price as the other but one makes profit and ships for free and one can’t

I know that just trying fo figure out how some places can do it other can’t . Looking at engine stands northern tool is free harbor freight wants 100$ ebay is free .

I just bought a 9 hp, $3300, 1300#, pull type backhoe from HF delivered to my driveway per 41' freight truck. Shipping was $95 lower 48 wide. Sounds to me like contracts with off beat carriers is one way to keep prices reasonable or included in the price. I think UPS and FedEx both have contracts of the sort for items they transport.

Business 101:

Businesses exist primarily to make money. Not for our convenience. If they do not make money, they are not around for long.

They have creative ways of disguising actual costs like inflated shipping cost, or shipping costs worked into the price of the item, but you can rest assured - there are no free lunches. So, if a seller offers an item for $100 with free shipping, you can be sure that the cost of shipping is worked into the price and he is making a profit. If his price turns out to be the lowest, you can be sure that there is a reason for it. Either he is getting it for less than other sellers, taking less profit than other sellers, or has found a less expensive way to ship his goods.

Yep
Millertire is making profit on the tire and the shipping add on is also pure profit.

Millertire is big enough to get a great deal on shipping.

(quoted from post at 18:10:25 12/22/20) Off all the places on the internet Miller was the cheapest until shipping

speedytire dot com in Louisiana has them at $157.67 each.
But with shipping it is almost $9 more than simpletire.

So millertire shows their azz again.
