Hesston tractors

Local Kubota dealer had a used Hesston "mudder" on his lot forever. That's the model that has the same size tires on the front as on the back, and your first thought is "Give me 40 acres and I'll turn this rig around." My neighbor ended up with it, and he was a hard bargainer, so I'm sure he got it for a song and sung it himself. I borrowed it one time to finish baling, as I had had a breakdown. It turned out to be pretty nimble, and turned on a pretty tight radius. Guess I shouldn't have judged it so harshly.

Just need the right steering gear and front tires spaced far enough apart to allow room for the tires in that tight turn. Course Wheel base has a play in that too and one reason I like today's tractors vs the thousand series Deeres of yesterday.....course the long WB made for smoother riding. The bad side is they are a pain for attempting to get aligned on 3 pt equipment. I have bigguns and littleuns on different tractors and although when plowing the bigguns are great but that's about all.

Quite few dead Hesston tractors in my area. I've never seen one actually run. Fiat, "Fix It Again Tony"!

I have a 1/64 toy. It's a 'big' one, dont know the number. A Guy in the neighborhood has one. He had it when we moved here 30+ years ago. Uses it on a regular basis every year.dont know if he has ever had a problem with it.I looked at one back in the late 70/early 80 when I was shopping for a new tractor. It looked pretty 'chintzy',was not impressed.Eventialy bought a brand new JD 4040.These days, they cant hardly give one away at auction.

Funny story around Vern Weston getting me out to the dealership to look at a new Long (Fiat) 560 back in '76 but, long story short, I bought the bloody thing. Turns out it was certainly the handiest, and probably overall, the best all-around tractor I had on the farm (out of 16 or 17), especially considering it was 1/3 the cost of a JD, Case, Kubota, etc. When they delivered it he took pains to tell me that it was metric which meant it was imperative to go over it every few days and tighten up all the loose bolts (carefully because they strip easily). A few tubes of loc-tite solved that issue early on. Quiet, turn-on-a-dime, sipped fuel, kick myself now for selling after I dispersed the livestock. After 16 years it had 10,000 hours on the clock with never a breakdown or major repair; was still quiet, no smoke, easy starting, couldn't ask for more.....

The local New Holland dealer added Hesston to there line back in the day. I can remember 2 farmers with them, one quit farming and neighbor bought his until he retired and was sold and never seen again and the other is still around but not used much as he is just row crop now. Dad had one of those pens that had a Hesston tractor in the upper part that went back and forth, like the naked lady pens.

there was a Hesston dealer in Foreston Il was once a Allis Chalmers dealer sold out got it but again in farm mess of the 80s.
I bought several of the 1/64 toys I think Tall Kid has them somewhere.
I don't know if there were any other Hesston tractor dealers around.
I do however have a Hesston mower conditioner that is one heck of a mowing machine.

That reactor has oddly sized tires, those skinny rears wouldn’t clear any mud here, and follow the wide front just odd.

But the tractor accessories are nice.

They are from across the sea where they have to adhere to strict rules for width . Those are pretty nice front weights

I think Hesstons hay equipment is 2nd to none, but Hesston built that stuff here in the US. The Fiat/Hesston tractors aren't true Hesston products.

A friend of mine bought a case ih mudder for haying but he ended up selling it he didn’t like way the drawbar was setup for baling
