Deutz John Deere joint vrnture

https://www.deutz.com/en/media/press-releases/deutz-and-john-deere-power-systems-announce-engine-collaboration/

Press release link. Sounds like components rather than complete engines?? Up to 130 kW engines.

On second thought rereading the press release, 130KW is 175 horsepower. Doesnt's seem like a low horsepower engine to me.. And it sounds like complete engines, not components.

Good find. I had not seen that news yet. Does not give a whole lot of details. Designing and sourcing components for an engine (or engine family) jointly. Manufacturing of the engine(s) that result from the collaboration will be separate.

With the high cost of development of products nowadays, expect to see more collaboration between companies (even competitors) in the future. It has been trending that way in industry for years. Some examples (among many):
1. Ford and GM 10 speed automatic transmission in half ton trucks (recently)
2. Chrysler, Hyundai, and Mitsubishi with 4 cylinder engines (00's)
3. GM, Chrysler, Daimler, and BMW with the 2 Mode Hybrid (00's)
4. Even Cummins and JI Case with the 5.9/3.9L (B series) and 8.3L (C series) in the 80s

I will admit I did not expect a pairing of Deutz and John Deere. Deere does have a good amount of engineering and manufacturing in Germany though, and has for years.

Only in our dreams...but will likely never see a new direct air cooled tractor again. Emissions and heat for the cab have killed them. Luckily my old ones will still be around for the next generation on this farm to use.
Deutz needed a new smaller engine platform. In Deutz-Fahr tractors (now a separate company from the Deutz engine company and owned by Same), they recently replaced the Deutz (water cooled) engines with Same (water cooled) 'Farmotion' engines on the under 150 hp tractors cause the Same had better torque and fuel efficiency, significantly so. I am told the Deutz engine was choked down so much to meet emissions. The Deutz was an older platform engine.

Lucky you, you still got your old ones kicking. They must be collector's items in a few decades.
