What don't you know?

Sadly for me, the list of things I haven't learned yet is lengthy.
Today I learned a 10' store bought gate is only 9'6". I had an
11' opening so I bought 2-10' gates thinking 6" on each end
would be good. Not so much. Should have measured them at
the store, but it never crossed my mind a 10' gate wouldn't be
10'. Lol

struggled mightily when I learned that 1/2" plywood is 15/32". Had a similar issue when I found out a 2x4 isn't 2"x4".

That's what I figured, I had 11' so 6 for hinges and the other side 6" would be ok. But 6" is the max for the hinges and 3 is better and that left too much. Oh well, you can't go to tractor supply too often anyway. Lol

Ya & I can remember when you could get an un-milled 2 X 4 that measured 2" X 4" at the lumber yard. "Rough cut" ponderosa pine lumber was common here in SE SD during the '50's, because there were lots of saw mills in the Black Hills that were turning it out. There was virtually a saw mill in every draw to turn out lumber for the post WW II building boom. Plainer mills couldn't keep up. Too many saw mills that needed to sell the product, so they shipped to the Eastern end of the state. Farmers bought it because it was less expensive than the milled stuff & worked just fine for cattle sheds, machine sheds & other outbuilding.

What I don't know is, How much I don't know. I think it is in the "to infinity and beyond" category. But for sure, anything electronic is beyond me.

The things I know wouldn't fill a button hole!

The things I don't would fill the Dead Sea Scrolls!

And no, I didn't make that up, heard it somewhere long time ago.

You must be older than me, when I started doing carpenter work they were 1 5/8 x 3 5/8! But on the farm they were 2 X 4, from the wane and warp lumber company.

And just because it is in a bigger can doesn’t always mean it’s cheaper than the smaller can

The bigger can is 6 cents more per ounce than the smaller one

I just answered the first thing that popped into my mind little did I know half the responses were also about the small 2 x 4s . LOL

Yeah, what still looks like a half-gallon is actually 3 pints!!!!!!!!!! Can't fool me when it comes to 'skreem....................gtm

I don't know what I don't know because if I knew what I don't know then I wouldn't not know it anymore. Know what I mean??? But for sure I know that I don't know a whole lot!

I did the opposite. Needed a sorting gate so I measured the opening and dad welded me one up. I forgot to allow for the hinges.( gate needed to swing both ways or it would of worked)

I see a bottle of motor flush. I would never run that through my motor. Never know what it will loosen up. The same for a transmission flush. Stan

I buy Diamond bar gates, a 10' gate is 10'. 10' 3" gap is the bare minimum if you want the gate to swing both directions. I hung one 15' gate in a 15' 3" door opening and it's tight.

All of these are because of ever-increasing production costs. Studies were done to determine what people would react less favorably to, the same packaging at a higher price or smaller packaging at the same price.

People complained less when the package was made smaller, but sold for the same price.

Same goes for shell rotella t4 15w 40 motor oil at tractor supply. It's $35. for 2 1/2 gallons and $72 for 5 gallons,so why would I bother messing around trying to juggle the stupid 5 gallon bucket when it's cheaper use the much nicer 2 1/2 gallon jugs of oil.

I’m not a fan of the 5 gallon pails for engine oil either seems like It is easier to spill and a lot harder to lift

I use motor flush a lot just not that brand . Sometimes it just a couple gallon of diesel there’s one I really like but it’s kinda expensive

But you have another 5 gallon bucket when it's empty...can't have too many.

But I don't like dealing with the buckets of oil either.
