Setting up my engine

Room . It’s far from a great environment but With a little care
I think it will be fine . I’ve done precision work right in the
plowed ground or a grain field just takes a lot of extra care

That'll work OK. Cement floor is nice but not mandatory. Curious about the beams hanging down in the middle.

Looks like the old 5.9 was thinking about dropping right through the work table. Definitely looks like you have some solid cribbing under the secondary support ..bottle jack.. Any chance of the roof coming down? Maybe the rafter cross brace repair should move up on the priority list.

Planning on beefing up the table after I get the engine tore down and sent to the machine shop

Only one rafter was broken it has been that way for about 20 years now happened when I was unloading a barrel of fuel and The barrel got hung up on the truck bed when I went to pull out from under the hazards Of doing everything by yourself I will try to get that fixed when I get the engine block out of here . That table is pretty stout it’s suppose to have another leg in the middle but for now the 20 ton jack and weight should do

When you get the engine stripped and gone.... get a chunk of angle iron drill some holes in it then jack up that rafter and put the angle iron across it and lag it in..

Now that stack of green cribbing under the table... Want to part with any of em???

It actually was doing fine without the jack I had another engine on it before this but I figured may as well give it a little extra support

There is always work to when you run ancient equipment 54 year old tractors and 22 year old trucks takes some maintenance and upkeep

I’ve rebuilt my 4020 engine in college that was a bill that could choke a elephant 🐘 I didn’t leave one thing on that without going through it then I rebuilt a John Deere 5400 my first year Of college it was a little three cylinder diesel and then I rebuilt a ford a little compact tractor engine those are made by shibaura and then of course various small engines in college and high school’ classes

I’ve thought about pulling the jack and weights out from under and stacking pallets underneath instead that way it would have a lot more support

Nice, ya that small block 400 rebuild was a small fortune also, when i worked at one horse farm, Highcliff, we had a tractor like that 5400, maybe a 5303? 5203, or something hooked to the feeder wagon. They also had a older jd w loader 27xx or so i cant remember. Im positive that 5203 whatever it was, was made in india!

Did not realize that Yellow Dodge was a 24V. Just assumed it was a 12V. Recently saw an article about putting a p7100 pump on the early 24Vs, (get rid of the VP44) said you have to pull the camshaft to change the front cover to have the correct mounting holes for the pump.

Yes a p pump conversion is not worth it unless you are after
big big horsepower. I’ve owned 5 twenty four valves and
replaced 2 pumps in 18 years of owning them . This truck was
built 3 of 1998 I have the original build sheet here and they
upgraded from the 12 to 24 the 24 valve were available
standard in the 1999 model year which start in the 6 month for
these trucks that’s why guys say 1998.5 when there really is
no half it is a 1998 or 1999

If you want to do a good job on an Over Haul it's best to have your engine on a stand, and it's much safer,,for you and the engine...

303 oil buckets? I have a large stack of those empty buckets from Orschelns. Now we can get flamed by the IH hytran police. Bot 4 buckets of the VP racing hytran from TSC last week when they were on sale for 18 bux each. They met the MS 1206, 1207, 1208, 1210, and maybe one higher standards. Their traveler brand went for 10 bux more and it didn't list the highest MS standard that the VP did.

I’ve been thinking I ought to build one or buy one . But I only do an engine about once in 20 years

I’ve seen that vp oil wondered about trying it . I will say no
more yellow bucket on my place my hydraulics quit working
on my 4020 when I was using it I switched over to Mobil 424
and the hydraulic started working again

That’s the one . Head gasket or oil cooler failure let about a gallon of antifreeze into the crank case and took out a rod bearing

I need to watch the salvage yards for a combine final drive . Grandpa had the gear box out of a baler he made into a wire winder wish I knew what become of it
