When i was a teenager, another guy had a 55 Ford 6 cylinder,he split his 4 and 2, darn that had a different sound to it,kinda of a poping sound, but a nice tight 3-3 split will rattle window's when u let up on them !!!!

I recall hearing some guys talking about splitting the manifold, but never saw one done. By the time I was old enough to drive, the rage was big blocks big bores and speed. gobble

There is a guy in town that split one on a six Chevy, that was a 63 or 64 C10. The 2 cylinders were a straight pipe. When he got done playing, he had a 396 put in it.

Ford's 300-6 model year '87 and after, 1st year for EFI, had a split exh manifold from the factory. I never put dual exh on my '87, the pipe where the two pipes became one was 2-1/2" dia. for a foot or so, then catalytic converter, then a short 2" pipe and muffler and tailpipe. When the exh system started falling apart I removed everything behind the cat, went to town and bought parts to replace everything behind the cat. About 3-4 ft of 2" pipe and a turn down tip. No muffler, the cat REALLY quieted it down.

My 92 F150 with 300 six has a factory 'split' manifold.the original factory single exaust is shot. Been thinking of takeing it to a muffler shop and haveing a nice set of duals with glass pacs put on. Or maybe 'Cheery bombs'??? :)

New to form. Try a 57 Chevy 265 3spd in 1st gear at 20 to 25 mph . It would rattle windows, espicall y downhill. A lot of fun. Had 1glasspack and 1stock muffler.

Wasn't a 265, Chevrolets first v-8?? Seems as if my brother had a 265 V-8 in his 1955 2dr hardtop. Front end kinda started floating when you got to about 80mph. lol welcome to the forum, southwest Ia, get me a bit closer, what county city town?? gobble

Fenton made the cast iron "split manifold" for the Chevy six.
A very unique sound with "Smitty" mufflers.
Fenton also made cast iron headers for the Ford flathead V-8.

Tom, I am at Red Oak, Ia. We have a lot of steep hills in town. Never got excessive nois ticket, but probley should have. Thanks for asking. LVP

I was in a junk yard Monday that had a 300 Ford with the factory split manifold..Many years ago I had a neighbor with a 1979 Ford F-350 that had a Clifford dual exhaust manifold on a 300 Ford and it sure sounded good.

Check out the link below...I now own this 6000 Ford puller with a 300 Ford six in it....In this video its turning 7000 rpms...It was in Ohio back then and I'm the 3rd owner in Missouri....It does good to turn 6000 rpms now but still sounds great thru a header..
300 Ford

Gobble, yes a 265 was the CID of the first small block Chevy that came out in 1955. The 283 came out in 57. He may have meant to say 235, which was the Stovebolt 6 CID. I think 261 was the bigger six used in GMC trucks.

Not even while going down Chatauqua hill?

The 261 was also used in 'vetts before the Chevy 265 V-8 was available. Guy I knew in college had an older 'vett ('54 I think) with a 2-barrel carb on his 261 6 cylinder. It would "eat" V-8 '57-60 Chevy's and Ford's for lunch. This was in the fall of '61. Wonder if he's still got it. He lived in Sioux Falls.

1256 that 300 sure does sound like a two cylinder Deere diesel in that clip! I like the sound of those old sixes. My first car was a 59 Chevy with the 235 six cylinder. I wanted so bad to have the sound of a V8 coming out of that car so I dropped in a 283. Now I am back to liking the straight six.

Oh that's
who made the header's for chev 6's i seen one it was a factory made, it two little exhaust tubes to help put heat under the carburetor, to help vaporise the gasoline !

American Motors had a 327 cubic in motor in 1957, it was there own engine, same bore and stroke the chev 327 in 1962, It was called a Ramble Rebel, the only car that could beat the Rambler was the fuel injected 283 corvette, and that was a half a second,it could even beat the Chrysler Hemi, with 2 -4 barrels! I bet the lunch room was pretty quiet at the Chrysler Headquarters, when they got the results of that! Incidently there was one, in out community, it would snap your neck on take off!
