steering clutch freeplay?

Hi guys I have a International Drott t-340 and when I try to go up a hill it won't go, I was reading on another place a guy was saying it's the steering clutch adjustments and I should have an 1 1/2 to 2 inches of free play,my question is whats the free play when you first pull back and have the slack until it engages or is it when it is engaged and back? also I guess there is a bolt under the seat that adjust a spring for the planetary and that could need adjusted to climb hills also? any input that would help me out please?

Yes, and on a truck or tractor clutch it’s till the release brg. Touches the pressure plate fingers. Very important.

And on a truck you turn the ring inside the pressure plate to adjust the clutch then the clutch brake after that and once set it should come back to place with the ring adjusted.

As sv said about freeplay. You need a
manual to know exactly where to make the
measurement. It can be more things then
adjustment. Bad or out of adjustment
pressure plate, clutch discs worn or
glazed or oil soaked. If that side
doesn't drive at all could even be a bad
final drive, splines gone on shaft or
gears.

I Rebuilt a t340 about 10 years ago, when you pull back lever, part way it should start turning, pull
it back all the way and it locks brake on that side and swings around, had to pull both final drives
on mine,(you half to to work on the brakes) new discs and springs. their a real mess wo work on you
learn about taking off tracks & Sprockets. I also had to replace turning pads, it's a weird setup as
their is a Sun Disk on each side that revolves around and has turning pads, not many places to install
those pads, I got mine done at Ft. Wayne Clutch, in Ft. Wayne in. Used to be Capital Clutch in Indy.
This project was a restoration of a lifetime for me and my son, never got into anything quit like it
but undercarriage & tacks were no too worn. Sold it shortly after painting. Gene

There are three clutches in the tractor. A master clutch and two steering clutches. The words "won't go" are not descriptive enough for diagnosis.
Does it pull the engine down to near stall? Does it do this in all gears? Does the trctor try to turn one way or the other? Can you use the bucket to
take a bite out of the soil 6 inches deep? Diagnosis is 90% information, we have basically none. (I have been looking at the prior post for your
response there, letting us know if you managed the track adjuster issue. All of us on this forum depend on that feedback to add to our collective
knowledge.) This is not to discourage you, it is to let you know that we put time into our answers and feedback is a reward that lets us feel useful.
